Chapter 19

“Uhm, dinner is ready,” Rhiannon said in an awkward tone as she didn’t expect that they were talking about women.

Although she didn’t hear everything much, she knew that it had something to do with her but it didn’t trouble her so much as all that was on her mind was getting her revenge.

“Okay,” Octavius said as he glanced at her.

“I must eat Uncle Alfred's meals as I have missed eating them,” Dave said as he hurriedly stood up and walked to the dining room afraid that his friend would chase him out.

Octavius frowned as he had indeed planned to tell him to leave but now that the latter had already gone to the dining, he remained silent and followed him.

The dishes were already on the table and they could serve themselves thus there was no need to have some house help standing behind the waiting to serve.

Rhiannon sat at the end of the table and served herself a small portion of food making Octavius frown.

“Why are you seated there?” he asked in a displeased tone.

Rhiannon looked up thinking that her husband was talking to his friend but when he saw his eyes on her, she knew that the question was directed to her.

“Huh?” she asked in a confused tone as she didn’t understand what was wrong with where she was sitting.

“Why are you seated far away?” he asked when he saw her confusion.

“I thought that you guys hadn’t finished discussing what you were discussing that I wanted to buy space,” she answered causing Octavius to glare at Dave as if he was blaming him for her misunderstanding.

“Come here,” he said as he gestured her with his hand.

Rhiannon nodded and walked towards him and sat on his right side.

“That’s where you are supposed to always sit as long you are my wife. You should always sit by my side, understand?” he asked her and she nodded.

She was in a daze.

She remembered that when she was little her mother and father always sat at far ends. Then her mother died and her father remarried, his wife always sat on his right and her sister on his left. She alone was left seated at the farthest end she got used to it. Now been told that that was her seat, she didn’t know how to explain what she was feeling.

“Why aren’t you eating?” Dave asked her when she saw that she was looking at the wall looking lost.

“Uhm. I was wondering whether Uncle Alfred had eaten. If not, why can’t he join us?” she asked coming up with an excuse.

Alfred who had just walked in the dining to bring wine was shocked at her words. Not only him but even the others.

“Young mistress, that is impossible, he said as he trembled.

He felt his young master looking at him coldly and thought that his master would be mad at him.

“Why not?” Rhiannon asked in a confused tone.

She glanced at the three men in the room, one at a time and her big watery eyes blinking curiously.

“Oh, she is so cute,” Dave was unable to depress his inner thought earning both Rhiannon’s and Octavius’ glare.

“Guess not,” he said immediately when he saw their glares and was stunned at the same time as he wondered how Rhiannon could change personalities so quickly.

“Uncle Alfred, why don’t you want to join us for a meal?” she asked in a soft tone and a frown on her face as if she was not the one who had just glared at Dave.

“I can't young mistress. I am a servant and a master and a servant don’t share a table,” he said in a hurry.

“Who said you are a servant here? Okay, you might be but don’t we call you uncle? That means that to us, you are a family thus you shouldn’t treat yourself like that,” Rhiannon said.

Everyone was shocked by her words but they had to admit that what she said made sense.

Alfred was touched and liked the young lady even more promising himself that he will always look after her. He never expected that them calling him uncle meant that he was like a family to him.

“Wait, that is the young mistress what about the young master, am I a family to him too?” he asked himself inwardly as he glanced at Octavius to see his expression and hoping to get something from him but he was disappointed to see an expressionless face eating food as if nothing was happening at all.

“My mom always said that servants are just like us. We work in companies to earn money and they work at our homes to earn money thus we are just the same. There is no need to divide ourselves as if we are afraid of them. If we were, hated staying with them at the same table, and despised them then what's the reason to employ workers? Isn’t it better to do work for yourselves? She taught me that we are all equals and should love them the same way I love my family as we live under the same roof,” she said shocking them.

Even the expressionless Octavius had a complicated expression and different emotions running through his mind.

He glanced at his wife and wasn’t unable to get his eyes off her. From his words, he understood some things about her and why she had been taken advantage of by her closest people.

“Sit down. Do you want her to beg you for you to sit with us? If you continue dragging yourself, her meals will get cold and she has just recovered,” Octavius told the shocked Alfred.

“Yes, or do you think that if you do, we will eat you?” Dave said causing Rhiannon to look at him with a helpless look.

‘Can’t you all see that he is afraid of your jokes the other cold face?’ she asked inwardly as she didn’t dare voice her thoughts.

“Come on Uncle Alfred,” she said with a soft tone bringing Alfred back to reality.

“Yes yes, young mistress,” he said as he sat at the nearest seat but his eyes were watery as he looked at her.

“You are so kind. You are just like the young miss,” he said and Octavius paused and a face came to his mind, and then looked at Rhiannon.

He thought it was fate to have married such a person since both his mother and sister were kind. But shook his head.

They were kind to everyone as long as you didn’t cross them since you did, they would ruin you.

He remembered that his mother had ruined the Scotts, his sister ruined the Lopez, and is still ruining her fiancee’s family while here, his wife was busy ruining her own family.

He glanced at Rhiannon again and felt that she was the most heartless of all.

Rhiannon lifted her head and met his eyes.

“Where are you looking at me and not eating?” she asked as her eyes blinked.

Octavius came back to his mind and shook his head. “Nothing.”

They ate silently but the atmosphere was so harmonious.

“I am wondering why you cooked a lot of meals. I can even carry some back,” Dave said as he looked at the meals on the table and as he patted his full belly.

“No,” Octavius shouted.

“No? Why? Where are you going to take all that food?” Dave asked.

“There are other workers in the mansion, they can eat you. How can you an outsider carry our food while there are other people who can eat?” Rhiannon replied.

“Aargh, I thought you were cute but it now seems that you are just heartless like your husband,” Dave said as he pretended to be hurt hoping to earn sympathy but the couple just rolled their eyes at him causing Alfred to chuckle at the scene in front of him.

‘Indeed the young master and young mistress are perfect for each other,’ he said inwardly as he felt satisfied.

“I prepared all that meal as I didn’t know what the young mistress preferred to it. If I knew, you wouldn’t have even gotten a spoon to eat,” Alfred told Dave making him speechless and causing the latter to glare at him.

“Pfft. None of you love me. I am leaving and never coming back,” Dave said as he stood up.

“What are you waiting for? We won’t even miss you. Be sure of it,” Octavius said coldly.

Dave placed his right hand on his left chest as he pretended to be hurt causing Rhiannon to laugh loudly.
