Chapter 67: A Promise in the Sky

Chapter 67: A Promise in the Sky

Emily wanted to protest that she hadn't been that extravagant with money, but then she thought about her wall full of rare Birkin bags and the diamonds that were the size of pigeon eggs…

But didn't she deserve to be invested in?

Having such a wise and beautiful woman as a partner—wasn't that his greatest treasure? :)

"Even if I have time now, I don't feel like doing those things anymore," Ethan said, his long eyelashes turning gold in the sunlight outside the window.

"It was always just me. Without someone to share it with, it's not as fun."

Emily looked at him for a moment, then suddenly patted his arm, her smile sweet and bright.

"From now on, I'll do them with you!"

"Alright." Ethan turned his hand over to grasp hers, his gaze deepening. "Whatever we do from now on, we'll do it together."

He then raised his hand and pointed out the window. "Look."

Emily followed his gaze and, for the first time, saw the city where she had lived for five years from a completely new perspective.

The flowing rivers had turned into silver ribbons, gently winding around the towering skyscrapers. For the first time, Emily truly grasped just how prosperous this city, known as the "economic heart," really was.

The massive, iconic twin towers, usually so imposing, now looked like mere blocks, quietly lying beneath her gaze.

As the helicopter climbed higher, they drew closer to the first light of the new year, the world outside their window bathed in a pure platinum glow.

This kind of view made everything seem serene and filled with hope.

Emily sighed regretfully, "You should have told me earlier; I would have brought my camera."

"It's okay. We can bring it next time."

Ethan held her hand, his tone becoming more solemn. "I'll take you to capture every river, every sunset, and every snow-covered peak that you love."

These were the wishes and desires she had once written in her diary, things she might have forgotten.

But it didn't matter—he remembered.

And as long as it was something she wanted, he would make sure she got it.

The helicopter circled the city before finally landing on the rooftop helipad of Starry Sky Pavilion.

Once they were off the helicopter, they found that the chef had already prepared morning tea on the rooftop.

Ethan sat down at the table and pulled out the agreement he had shown at the old family home earlier.

"Take a look," he said, pushing the document toward Emily. "If everything's okay, go ahead and sign it."

Emily skimmed through the pages. Despite her limited legal knowledge, she could tell this was another completely one-sided agreement—one even more lopsided than the contract he had signed when he backed her studio.

They hadn't yet finalized their divorce, so legally, they were still married, and the prenuptial agreement from three years ago was still in effect.

Ethan's talk of "annulling the agreement" referred to signing a supplementary agreement on top of the original one—an agreement to share all marital assets, effectively nullifying the original prenuptial agreement and heavily favoring her in the division of assets.

Emily finished reading it but didn't pick up the pen.

Ethan watched her. "Is there a problem?"

Emily met his gaze, feeling a deep wave of emotion, even stronger than when he had stood up for her so fiercely in front of the entire family earlier.

What he was giving her wasn't just wealth; it was a complete and unwavering trust.

Emily set down the pen. "I'm not going to sign it."

Ethan was taken aback. "Why not?"

Emily pursed her lips, unsure of how to respond.

She thought about how her grandfather had been right—if they didn't get divorced, the agreement would be meaningless anyway.

But how was she supposed to explain that?

Oh, Ethan, I believe we'll grow old together and be forever in love.

—Yeah, that was not going to happen :)

Emily pushed the agreement away, crossing her arms stubbornly.

"What's the point of signing this? It only matters if we get divorced."

She pouted, letting out a small huff. "So, we just got back together, and you're already thinking about divorce? What exactly are you planning, Ethan?!"

Ethan chuckled softly, reaching out to gently pinch her puffed-up cheeks. "I'm not planning anything. I just can't help myself."

Emily: "Can't help what?"

Ethan's gaze deepened. "I can't help but want to give you everything."

He wanted to give her every good thing the world had to offer.

"Sharing everything with you is the only way I feel like everything I've earned has meaning." Ethan placed the pen back near her hand. "Please, just do this for me. Okay?"

Emily looked at him, her eyes flickering with emotion.

Ethan's long, neat fingers tapped on the document again, silently urging her to sign.

Emily slowly smiled, her expression sweet and tender.

Without saying anything further, she picked up the pen and removed the cap.

As she signed, a wave of déjà vu washed over her, memories from deep within her mind starting to resurface.

At some point in time, she had experienced a similar scene, signing her name on a document.

Emily closed her eyes and shook her head, raising a hand to her forehead, her brows knitting together.

Ethan noticed her reaction and immediately grew concerned.

"What's wrong?" He grasped her wrist gently. "Are you… starting to remember?"
