Charles smiled lightly as he began after Louis and walked into the building, all around he could see kids smiling and laughing and just genuinely enjoying their lives.
The interior of the tall building was surprising, Charles had half expected it to be very posh but it wasn't instead it had mostly wooden furniture and wooden floors which would creak every time he took a step. Despite its rather dry interior it felt extremely homely and this made Charles smile, he had never had this warm feeling of homeliness back in his old world so it was a pleasant encounter for the young man.
He took a few moments to look around the main hall making sure to take note of all the inhabitants of the orphanage, there were quite a lot of them which shocked Charles.
'do they all not have parents?'
Louis began to take Charles on a tour of the orphanage; he first took him to where the toilet was, the toilet was very old and kind of like the ones from the British Victorian era and was not entirely a toilet but more or less a wooden bucket which they had to empty on the daily. Then he led him to the bedrooms, there were many bedrooms in the orphanage to accommodate all the orphaned children, the rooms were built surprisingly well and were relatively large and contained only three pieces of furniture; A bunk bed which was around Charles height, A desk which could be used for the children's studies. Children got free education in this world which shocked Charles a bit but it was ultimately not up to him how the government and the king procure their taxes. And in the corner of the room their was a rocking chair, built of hard wood and a small red cushion placed where the user would sit.
The rooms were rather bland however it wasn't really not a surprise this was an orphanage after all and not all of the kids even had any personal items.
Then Louis led him into the kitchen, in the kitchen were just two chefs who seemed to be working incredibly diligently creating all kinds of dishes that Charles had never seen before, the kitchen was rather small but filled with ingredients.
The place seemed rather well off unlike how thing were back in his old world, perhaps it was due to this places backing of a noble which had influenced its outcome and shaped it into such a homely place.
The last and final place Louis led him to was the Library though it wasn't especially large Charles could tell that it would have more than enough information to help him out for the time being, snapping him from his thoughts was Louis voice.
"That is the end of the tour, Your room number is 23 and you may do whatever you like until Lunch which is in 3 hours and 25 minutes. Enjoy your stay here at Bardocks orphanage Charles."
"Thank you for the tour Louis, i will see you in 3 hours time"
Louis gave a short nod before walking away leaving Charles in the library.
Charles wasted no time and headed straight to a shelf and picked up a book labelled, 'Eridicts one through three'. By Lance Zaggerfall.
The books title confused Charles but he nevertheless took the book and headed to the only desk in the library and placed the book down before slowly taking a seat, sitting down he got comfortable well as comfortable as he could on the hard wooden chair.
He then opened the book and began to read.
(Eredict one, throughout history there have been many who have walked the path of the cultivator trying to raise their mental, spiritual and body levels to that of the Gods of course this journey would be a long and arduous one that not many had the will, patience or the time to achieve so many fell to other methods ones that are easier and faster than that of cultivation. People began to send offerings to the Gods instead of attempting to reach their plane of existence they would rather become their servants and be granted a small percentage of their powers. Which would grant them an increase in power, many even received immortality from these Gods which made the worshippers revere the Gods even more. After a while everyone began to think less of cultivation and even the method on how to cultivate had been lost to time.)
'Eredict one essentially says that people are lazy and cant be asked going along the path of cultivation and due to that people began to forget how to cultivate and instead chose to revere Gods to gain their power'
Charles reviewed what he had read before going into the Second Chapter.
(Eredict 2, Eventually the Gods grew tired of peoples offerings and began to distribute power less and less, it was believed that the Gods were giving away a small part of their power to be able to grant the people strength of their own though this information can not be verified since no one has seen a God to this date. When the Gods grew silent people began to get Greedy, Killing off those who had any semblance of power and labelling them as witches and began to spread rumours, those who possessed un-natural power were worshippers of the devil. This sprouted the seed for war and eventually when the time was ripe war began, it lasted a millennia causing the casualties of over 4.5 billion humans and the death of around 2.6 billion Demi-humans.)
'Its a classic case of people being too greedy for their own good, this happened a lot back where im from even my family were too greedy and ended up neglecting their own child. But either way Demi-Humans? They exist here, do they still exist here? are they welcomed by the humans?'
Charles thought for a long time, he didn't know what to think about what he had just read. It never really came as a shock that humans and people in general were greedy they always have been and it was the root of humanity's nature.
He then turned the page and began to read the third and final Eredict.
(Eredict three, The Gods were enraged by the wars that humanity had spread due to their greediness the Gods cursed humanity to never follow the path of ascension though they may end up with power they will never have enough using their own geed against them never again would they be the strongest of them all theyd always be lackluster in any kind of way.)
'So the Gods, who ever they may be. Got angry at wars that started in the absence of their prescense'
'And decided that humanity's greed should be used against them, now they cant even attempt to reach God hood. But what of the other races?, the book did mention demi-humans right?'
It did not take long for Charles to read through this book, mainly because of how short it was the book only had 3 small paragraphs so it was a far push to call it a book rather a pamphlet fit its looks better.
Charles placed the pamphlet of information down on the table; simulataniously raising his other hand to his breast pocket and pulled out the watch.
He did not try anything with watch after what he had just read, he wasnt quite ready to risk it all just like that. So he instead simply looked upon the time, he still had quite a lot of time until lunch as it would seem that reading the pamphlet had only taken him around half an hour.
After checking the time he delecately placed the watch back into his breast pocket where it fit snuggly; though it barely fit it stayed in place which was what mattered to Charles, he couldnt have it just falling out of his pocket at any moment now could he.
He suddenly shot up and began to the bookshelf to return what he had just read to its original position on the cabinet; the pamphlet slid smoothly into the spot where it had been before.
A slight sparkle had caught his attention, the spine of a book seemed to be glowing yet it wasn't there was in actuality no glow at all. Instead there lay a dusty older looking book, feeling intruiged by it Charles ran his finger over the spine feeling its small creases and folds slide peacefully across his fingers.
He then slowly removed the book from the cabinet and turned it so that its front cover faced him, the front read.
'The tales of time'
Waisting no time he took the book from the shelf and made his way back to his original seat, he sat down with a slow growl and began to spread the pages of the book. Though this too was too small to be called a book, instead of the size actually being small it was as if someone had ripped pages out of the thing and discarded it to the small cabinet to never be read again.
Charles flipped through the pages curiosity brimming in his eyes as he began to read.
(Gods, beings in which we used to revere used to be us. with us. around us. Though they are no longer human they too have experienced that of which a human has, Pain, Struggle and mistakes. It was only when they had ascended to there now supreme positions had they gained this arrogance,
Greed. Gods too felt the greed of power and though they punished humans for having such carnal desires they too couldnt help themselves beginning to betray those that care for them for stronger bodies, those that love them for stronger minds.
They were also jealous creatures, they did not like someone having nearly as much power as they did.
They began to banish those from the heavenly realm for they had feared an eventual destruction of their authority, take time for example.
He too was once an exalted being who ruled over a grand portion of the heavenly realm, but the Gods in their greed and jealousy set seals upon them and cast them down into the mortal realm.
His power then became the foundation for humanity's eventual progression of the clock, he whom used to be all mighty in his aspect was now but a simple tool people used to tell what time they could wake up, go to sleep and other sorts of miscellanious chores.
Time of course was outraged, but he could not do anything even if he tried to nothing would happen.
Eventually over the years people began to forget about the God of Time and began to think of him as a simple construct to their world, something that had no mind or feelings.)
'the tale of time truly is a tragic one, but it makes me wonder. What link does this mysterious God have with the pocket watch i found after i arrived in this world?. It could be the seal for the God himself, or was it herself?. The book referred to them as a he and a they, ugh confusing.'
Thoughts like these ran rampant in his mind for a while.
The only thing bringing him out of this trance like state was the chiming of the bells which he was told indicated meal times,
So with a smile plastered on his face he delicately replaced the book into its previous place and began his way to the main hall where lunch would be served, Charles though he had a pep in his step was still riddled by the numerous questions which appeared after reading that cryptic text.
He walked for a while making sure to take in every little detail about the place that he could, the small ornaments that evenly decorated the place, the children who could not attend school yet running down the hall toward the main hall.
The atmosphere was joyfull, and for the one of the few times since coming to this world Charles had felt relaxed and at peace with himself. Despite his uncontrollable thoughts, he couldnt help but smile as the children ran past in a brazen rush toward the hall.
He continued to walk to the hall as he let out a small whistle, a tune from his old world.
Happy he thought.
'ahh im famished'
