Evelyn’s POV

The air crackled with tension, thick and palpable, as the buyer turned to look at who had interrupted them. The moment Sebastian stepped out of his car, something within me stirred—a mix of relief and bewilderment. My heart raced, not just from the fear of my captors and the stark reality of my situation, but from the unexpected sight of him, here, in this godforsaken place.

I had called the Thunderclap Military College for help. Knowing they'd sent someone to rescue me injected a fleeting strength into my veins. But I didn't think they'd send Sebastian. The youngest professor, whose reputation was more academic than heroic. At that moment, as much as I was happy to see him, I was also worried.

The dirt road was deserted, the moon casting long shadows across the uneven ground. The buyer stepped forward, the gravel crunching under his boots. His goons flanked him, their faces hidden in the shadow, exuding a menacing aura.
