Evelyn’s POV
As soon as I was free, I scrambled up to the window, pushing it open with all my strength. I didn’t think twice before jumping out.
The wind whooshed past me, and in the split second, before I hit the ground, I realized I was falling from the second floor. Pain exploded in my ankle as I landed hard, a sharp twist sending agony shooting up my leg. I bit down on a scream, forcing myself to get up and limp away from the shabby house. I couldn’t afford to stay, not with Hannah and the Dark Mirror right behind me.
Thankfully, the forest wasn’t far. I hobbled toward the treeline, each step a battle against the searing pain in my foot. The shouts from the shack grew louder, the buyer’s booming voice sending chills down my spine.
“She’s getting away! Find her!” he roared, his voice echoing through the night.
