Chapter 25: Secrets

Evelyn's POV

I knew what was coming. His eyes, usually so composed and indifferent, now bore into me with an intensity that was impossible to ignore. The silence between us was thick, laden with unspoken questions and suspicions that neither of us was quite ready to voice.

I had known this day would come. Ever since that night when we rescued the kidnapped she-wolves from the Dark Mirror rogues, the memory of those herbs had haunted me. I’d acted on instinct, using the knowledge I’d acquired over years of survival—knowledge I was never supposed to have. The herbs I had used to poison the rogues' soup were common in rogue territory, a place I wasn’t supposed to know anything about.

But I did know. And Sebastian knew that I knew.

"Evelyn," Sebastian said again, his voice calm and measured, "there's something I need to ask you."

I looked at him, trying to hide my fear, willing myself to remain calm. "Of course, Commander," I replied, keeping my tone neutral.
