CHAPTER 38: The Shadow of Truth

Evelyn’s POV

The cold, damp air of the cell pressed against my skin, seeping into my bones like a cruel reminder of the reality I now faced. The stone walls, rough and unyielding, seemed to close in on me, but I felt strangely calm. I had always imagined that I would be terrified if I were ever caught and thrown into jail, but now, sitting here, I felt a sense of eerie acceptance. This was my fate, after all.

I’d spent years among rogues, watching as they were dragged into cells just like this one, their eyes filled with fear and hatred. Thunderclap was the enemy; everyone knew that. The Alpha King was a name that struck terror into the hearts of rogues everywhere. I had seen it time and time again—rogues captured, tried, and sentenced without mercy. I had never deluded myself into thinking I would be any different.
