Three more days passed before the search and rescue team finally found my body.

It wasn't their fault that it took so long. After all, my body had already been burned to charcoal and was mixed in with the withered trees on the ground, making it very difficult to identify.

When my mother-in-law heard the news, she staggered over. The moment she saw my miserable corpse, she instantly collapsed to the ground, tears streaming down her face.

In no time at all, she fainted from crying and was sent to the hospital.

Although I was her son-in-law, she had always treated me like her own son.

She and my mother had been close friends since childhood and had watched me grow up.

After Olivia and I got married, she did everything she could to make up for the coldness and pain I received in my marriage.

I had even promised her that we would go to Sanya together for a vacation when winter came. But now, we were separated by life and death, and our past promises could never be fulfilled.

When my mother-in-law woke up from her coma, she forced herself to stay strong and repeatedly called Olivia, but all she got was a cold busy tone. Olivia even turned off her phone.

She probably thought her mother was trying to force her to go home and stay with me again.

Henry Zhang, this good brother who always stayed cheerful and optimistic no matter how tough life got, was now kneeling in front of me, crying his heart out.

He tightly grasped my charred hand, as if only this could ease the pain in his heart.

"Ethan, I'm useless. I didn't know when your parents passed away, and I couldn't save you when you were in trouble. I'm useless!"

"I always wanted to persuade you to get a divorce, but I was afraid of hurting you. It's my fault for harming you!"

I kept shaking my head. Seeing him so full of self-blame and regret, I really wanted to comfort him that it wasn't his fault at all.

My fixation on Olivia was already ingrained in my bones. A few words of persuasion couldn't shake me.

My mother-in-law endured her grief and dragged her weak body to handle all the procedures for me.

That flimsy death certificate in her hand nearly made her faint from crying again.

Henry accompanied her to the hospital.

There, Olivia was gently taking care of her shining moon.

Seeing this scene, my mother-in-law was so angry that her whole body trembled. She directly slapped Olivia across the face.

"Ethan has been missing for so many days, and you're here keeping him company? Are you even human?!"

"Ethan died so horribly. Hurry up and come with me to see what your husband looks like now!"

Olivia looked indifferent. She put down the bowl, stood up, and coldly looked at her mother.

"Mom, I know you don't like me being with Liam, but do you really need to make up this kind of lie to get me to leave?"

Olivia touched the corner of her mouth. Seeing the fresh blood on her fingertips, her expression grew even colder.

"How long is a grown man going to be so wimpy? I already sent so many people to look for him. What more do you want?"

"The rock he was on was so high, and the fire couldn't reach him. With his physical fitness, how could he not hold on until the next wave of rescue? I really don't understand why you all keep coming to me for such a small matter. Do you have to be satisfied only if I stand guard at the scene every day?"

"How did I give birth to a beast like you!"

As soon as Olivia finished speaking, her mother was so angry that she couldn't stand steadily.

Henry's anger also exploded. He let out a furious roar, rushed forward, and violently pushed Olivia away, landing a punch on Liam's face.

Olivia fell to the ground, and Liam's nose started bleeding from Henry's punch.

The coldness in her eyes finally turned to rage.

"You two heartless, ungrateful dogs! You say such nice things, claiming to be just friends, but you've actually been hooking up for a long time!"

Henry pushed away Olivia, who had come to stop him, pointed at her nose, and cursed, "You didn't even know your own husband had stomach cancer and couldn't hold on in that situation? Ethan stood by you, you beast, for so many years. I really feel he wasn't worth it!"
