Chapter twenty three

Her heart shattered, each broken piece scattering like fragments of glass as she stood frozen in the doorway unable to move or to speak. She was totally taken back by the view.

The tears she had fought to suppress, the ones she had tamed and buried deep, now erupted like a dam finally bursting.

Her vision blurred until she could barely see anything beyond the haze of her grief and fury.

How did I deserve this?

she thought, her chest tightening.

'I must have been a monster in my past life to warrant this much pain.'

The room was a grotesque parody of what it should have been between her and Joey. Almost a life's joke.

Petals and flowers adorned every surface, the sweet scent of roses mingling with the soft flicker of candles that lined the room, their glow casting a mockery of romance.

Each of those detail was planned by her and now was part of something that turned against life.
