Anna's POV
I drove to the family's mansion all by myself. I am nervous and unsure of what to expect but I made sure to pay extra care to my appearance and I dressed elegantly. I had chosen to dress with extra care so that they wouldn't be able to look down on me.
My head still hurts from where Jennifer had on my hair yesterday.
Nicholas was still not picking up or returning my calls or returning them and that has had to my fear.
Where could he be?.
The moment I walked into the living I realized it was just her against the whole family.
The look on their faces was not nice but it's not a new occurrence.
I sent a text message to Nicholas earlier and hope he sees it soon and comes over.
A look of disdain and disgust was written all over Selina and Jennifer's faces.
They both sneered at me as I walked in.
Nicholas's father was also seated as well as his brother. Only Rebecca and the grandfather weren't present.
"Sit down, young lady," Nicholas's father said, pointing to a seat.
I silently sit, my heart beating fast in my chest.
"Are you aware this family can easily sue you for fraud and deception because of what you did?
We do not deserve this from you, but we are more generous than that. Also, you have to sign these divorce papers now", Nicholas's father said, strictly bringing out the divorce documents.
"Why should I sign it?
Sir, I will have to refuse your request.
The person I got married to is Nicholas, and only he can make me sign it".i replied stubbornly, while I fret inside.
"How can you be in the wrong and still be brazen at the same time?
This family has no space for a wild goose like you with no good family background.
You are not a good fit for my son!" Selina yelled beside her husband.
I remained unfazed as they all came at me, although she remained composed on the outside. I was praying vehemently for Nicholas to come fast. I know I would not have faced them if he were around, but he had disappeared since the previous day.
"You need to sign this now," Nicholas' father pressed on, holding out the papers to me.
"I think I will have to leave now" I said curtly and stood up from the couch, but I had not taken a step when I was pulled back by the hair.
Again?
"Where the hell do you think you are going?" Jennifer's voice sounded beside my ear and she dragged me by my hair.
I fought to free my hair from her hold but her hold on it only got stronger.
Shoving me back to the seat, she hit me right on the face immediately.
My sight distorted for a few seconds, and it felt like I was seeing stars.
Jennifer had hit me right on the face just like her mother did.
"You are not leaving today except you sign this" Jennifer yelled at her.
Holding a hand to my face, I felt tears well up in my eyes. I have suddenly lost the strength to fight back.
I wasn't the one at fault here.
I thought weakly.
"Enough! I will sign it!". Nicholas's voice traveled to my ears and I thought I was dreaming but only to see him pick up the divorce papers and sign them.
"Nicholas!" I sprung out of my seat in shock. This was not what they had discussed.
If he knew he was going to sign it, why had he put me through all this?
My eyes remained glued to him, she could not believe what she was seeing.
"That's good, you have finally come back to your senses, my son," Selina said happily.
"Sign it, consider our deal over now". Nicholas said with a frown, but his eyes evaded mine.
I frowned at his words. I have held a little hope for whatever was between them, I guess that's my fault but I do not deserve to go through all of these after we both signed an agreement.
"Sign it!
Can't you see he has signed it?" Jennifer yelled again and threw the papers at me.
My eyes remained glued to Nicholas for a while, I needed an explanation but there are a lot of barriers between us, making it hard for me to talk to him.
I took the papers and signed them with shaking hands.
"Good!
Now get yourself out of this house and never return", Selina ordered.
I looked over to see Nicholas facing away from away.
I pick up my bag to leave and, at that moment, Mia arrives.
"Nicholas!" She called out in a sweet voice.
She went over to him and hugged him.
I looked away from them and I walked out of the house quickly and in shame.
The feeling of betrayal was stifling my heart, it's my fault for getting distracted for that period.
I started the car but did not drive it off the property as my eyes were blurry from unshed tears.
Why am I crying?
"It was not real Anna, get yourself together!".
I feel cheated and defeated.
I returned to Nicholas's house to pack my things out.
"It's over now" I reminded myself self as I shoved my things into bags.
I stopped what I was doing as I came across the document the grandfather gave me after the wedding.
I stared at it for a while with a heavy heart, he was the reason I went through all that.
I would look for a way to give it back to him later.
When she was done packing, I called Lily to close the office as I wouldn't be around for a while.
"What is going on?
Hmm?
Talk to me Anna", Lily's desperate voice sounded from the phone.
"Just do as I say for now" I replied weakly.
I load up my things into my car and headed for a hotel.
I had given up her apartment a while ago, and I wasn't ready to worry Lily and all my family members that lived in another city and that I hadn't seen in years.
"It's time to go back home" I said to myself while driving.
I stopped at a red light and my mind drifted off.
I was still lost in thought and had no idea the light had turned green and all the vehicles behind me had all left drove off.
I finally came back to her senses and was about to start the car when a speeding car from behind rammed into my car sending it flying ahead and crashing into another car ahead.
A scream left my lungs before everything turn dark.
~
Loud screeches of tires and the sound of shattering windows occupied the air.
An ambulance arrived at the spot minutes later and Anna was pulled out of the shambles of her car.
She was taken to the nearest hospital, already unconscious and bleeding.
She has no hope of coming out of it alive.
Her family was contacted, and they arrived about thirty minutes later.
"I'm here for my sister, Annabelle Varon," a young man said to the nurse at the front desk in a hurry.
His eyes darted around in panic.
"What's your name sir and can I get any form of identification?" she replied politely.
He nodded and pulled out an identification card.
"I am Anthony Varon," he replied.
Anna's full name is Annabelle Mae Varon. She is the only daughter of the great Varon family in the fifth generation.
She had left home a few years ago because she wanted to experience the world outside, but she was only allowed to do that while hiding her identity.
The Varon family is the second strongest and most influential family in the country.
The first and the most powerful was the royal family. A daughter of such a family was belittled by the Chester family.
