Livia wakes up to sunlight streaming into the room through the gap between the curtains.
Raylen is beside her, still sound asleep.
A row of pillows lies conspicuously between them. They were first placed there after the family dinner ended. They were then cleared the next morning so the kids wouldn't get suspicious if they decided to come into the master bedroom.
Last night, after the twins were asleep, Livia rearranged the pillows back into a row. She wasn't cruel enough to make Raylen sleep on the couch when he was paying for the whole trip, but she also didn't want to be physically close to him either, especially not when one or both of them were asleep.
The row of pillows is the compromise.
