Chapter Five

"Of course, no family would. But I have to make them accept you. My grandfather doesn't go against his promise, so be rest assured," Atticus' words made her feel relieved.

"If that is the case, what am I to do to gain your family's acceptance?" She asked curiously.

Atticus hesitated before answering, hoping his action wouldn't put her in trouble. He knew how stubborn his grandfather could be.

"See for yourself if you have a chance to get their acceptance."

"How can I do that?"

Her question made Atticus chuckle. She is so pretty when she is curious, he thought.

"Attend the dinner my family invites your family to. We would be having dinner at Jay's restaurant. I want you to be there. Look stunning and presentable," he said, his eyes glued on her.

"Ahem..." Sabrina coughed, giving him a signal to take his eyes off her. "I would do that, but what time is the dinner?" She asked.

"It is at 8:30 pm," Atticus replied with a faint smile, imagining how different Sabrina would look in a dashing dress.

She nodded her head before leaving. Atticus' voice made her pause, hesitating to open the door.

He walked up to her before handing her his black card, which is only used by class-A citizens. "You can't look like an angel without this."

"Haha, I almost forgot the fashion shops don't do charity anymore," she joked before leaving the place.

She headed out of the hotel and took a cab home. She arrived by 7:35 pm, making her boy bothered. She had to take her bath and hurry to the fashion shops so as to meet them because the shops close by 8:00 pm.

After alighting from the car, she headed to her room without bothering about her family downstairs. Even though their silence was quite suspicious, she couldn't care less. Nothing is more important to her than the dinner.

She hurried to take her bath, applied her lotion before changing into one of the old gowns in her bag. Since she had no way to go, and barely went on dates as she was immersed in her work, she couldn't get herself a new dress.

After using the perfume, she took her purse which contained only her phone and Atticus' black card.

Reaching the door, she tried to open it but couldn't. The door was locked.

"We are heading out. When we come back, you better make your decision. You either remain in this room, get tortured and taken to Mr. Thompson or go to him at your freewill," a familiar voice echoed outside. It either belongs to Mrs. Kieran or Alicia.

But that isn't what she was concerned about. What she was concerned about is how to get out of her room. She has to attend the dinner.

That is the only way she could escape this hell.

"Please open this door..." she kept pleading but didn't get any response, making it obvious that no one is around.

***8:35 pm At Jay's Restaurant

"We are sorry for being late," Mr. Kieran apologized with his head bowed, his family doing the same before the Sawyer family.

"We are going to be in-laws soon, stop doing this and have your seat," the old man known to be Mr. Sawyer, the founder of Sawyer Group.

Sawyer Group is a hundred billion dollars worth company with many subcompanies which cut across the world. It ranked no. 2 in the world business ranking (WBR) and no. 1 in domestic business ranking.

"Thank you, sir," Mr. Kieran said with a faint smile before seating down. His wife and daughter did the same.

Across the table are the family of Sawyer; Atticus, the first and illegitimate son of the family. Mirabel, the eldest daughter. Alexander, the last son. And last, their mother, the departmental director of Sawyer medicines and chemicals.

"Won't you dig?" Mr. Sawyer urged the Kieran family who joined them and were acting like strangers.

Atticus, who was waiting for Sabrina's presence but couldn't see her, wondered what might be keeping her. She can't ditch him, he thought.

Slowly, he took his phone out and typed to his secretary. 'Visit Kieran's mansion and check if Sabrina is locked up. If she is, rescue her. If she isn't, report immediately.'

'Sure, sir,' his secretary typed back.

He slid his phone back into his pocket before anyone could see him. Sabrina has to be here before his grandfather begins his marriage talk. He knows once his grandfather makes a promise, he doesn't go against it. That is his principle.

"Who are you messaging in front of your in-laws? Your lover?" Mirabel, who caught a sight of Atticus sliding his phone into his pocket, asked calmly.

"Oh, it is work. I am sorry if I am inconveniencing you all," he apologized with a straight face. Even though it didn't mean it, no one cares at all.

A few minutes after they began eating, Mr. Sawyer brought up Atticus' marriage. "Martin, I want the marriage between—"

"Father, can we talk about this after I am back? I have a stomach upset," he inquired, hoping for a positive response.

"Yes. We would wait for you to be back," his grandfather replied before he continued eating.

He excused himself after hearing his grandfather's assuring words.

Almost thirty minutes in the bathroom, still no response from him. About to give up and return to his grandpa, who would probably be done with eating by now, a message arrived.

He unlocked his phone and quickly checked his message. 'She was locked. I have to call professionals to spoil the door and bring her out. She is already dressed up and on our way here.'

'No problem. You could have informed me,' he typed back to his secretary.

"Are you messaging your lover? Or are you really sick?" Alexander's question made him walk out of the bathroom.

"Since when do you begin to care about my health?" He replied to him with a question.

"Atticus, I wouldn't be here if grandpa didn't insist I come to check up on you, wondering if you are dead," with that said, Alexander left.

Atticus did the same after washing his hands. He joined the others who were done eating.

"What is the problem?"

"Grandpa, it is a stomach upset. It is nothing to worry about," he replied sweetly.

Mr. Sawyer's lips curled into a bright smile as he watched the boy who used to worry about tell him not to worry. He is glad he could raise his grandson well without worrying any longer. Now he can face his son without being ashamed of himself.

He stopped his son from marrying the lady he loved, but his son didn't stop. He impregnated his lover, leading to Atticus' birth. When Atticus became ten and was told his stepmother wasn't his mother, he urged his father to take him to visit his mother.

Even though his mother died at childbirth, Atticus's father decided to take him to where his mother's remains were. But unfortunately, that was the end for him. That was how Mr. Sawyer lost his son and almost lost his grandson.

"Mr. Sawyer, didn't you want to talk about my daughter and your grandson's wedding?" Mr. Kieran's question brought Mr. Sawyer from his past.

"Before that, there is someone I want you all to meet," Atticus said, his gaze directed to the entrance of the room they were.

Everyone wondering who he might have invited, they turned their gaze to the entrance.

The door opened, and a feminine figure walked in majestically.

Even though Sabrina looked different in the dress and makeup, Alicia was quick to remember. There was no way she could forget the scar on Sabrina's leg.

"Sabrina, what are you doing here? Are you here to disgrace the family? You ingrate!" Alicia shouted at her, not caring about her in-laws.

"Watch your manners, Alicia. I invited her here, so be respectful. She is your elder sister and my guest too!"
