Synopsis

Su Jie, capable of traveling between Blue Star and the Cultivation World, discovered that cultivation was just too difficult.

Spirit Pills, Magic Artifacts, Pocket Worlds, and inherent comprehension—each was a mountain on the long road to immortality.

Not until Su Jie found out that Demon Cultivators refined corpses by killing, extracted souls to cultivate fiends, and used fear as sustenance for their cultivation.

Need souls to consecrate a Soul Summoning Banner? Get to know the pig farms that slaughter millions of pigs a year.

Need human fear to cultivate fierce ghosts? Stock up on ghost houses, horror films, and horror games...

Need fresh blood for Demon Techniques? Across the ocean, America is the world's largest grey market blood transfusion station...

......

Years later.

"You devil, how many people have you killed? And you still have the face to call yourself a good person? Pah, today I shall act on behalf of heaven to mete out justice."

The Tianyuan World's most beautiful person's eyebrows were furrowed with rage, as she stared at the terrifying Devil before her, enveloped in wronged souls, with thousands of ghosts parading on his Soul Banner, seated in a palace made of bones, she posed her soulful question.

The Devil slowly stood up and pulled out a business card that read "Hua Country's Philanthropist of the Year / Founder of the World's Largest Chain of Ghost Houses / Owner of Blue Star's Largest Livestock Slaughter Business / Emerging Tycoon of the Entertainment Industry."

"You see, I'm really not a devil, okay? Nowadays, who still uses such a lowly method as killing people to cultivate as a devil!"

Not sure what the other review was yapping about. The guy slept with one girl from earth who he originally knew and hasn’t slept with anyone else since plus on earth he’s practically god I can’t really see any backlash happening unless… well unless they want to die I guess. As for arrogance. I wouldn’t say he’s arrogant at all. He’s confident and doesn’t hide every single ounce of his strength. He takes chances that can help him grow stronger though they might be dangerous. I’d say the novel is quite decent though I wouldn’t call it anything amazing it’s definitely a solid read.

your wish if you want to read they show a detailed background of demonic sects instead of some novels where protagonist goes on shouting that nothing is good or evil nonsense

From my experience the story starts really strong but once you hit towards the premium chapters (around 40) it falls off some. This is mainly because the Mc begins building a bigger power base in the real world, and anyone who has been around translated novels on this sight for a while knows what happens when there is a modern setting and Mc interacts with other countries. That made the novel a bit messy and unenjoyable to me. The premise of the story itself (coming back to the modern world for resources) s really exciting and hooked me strongly at first, but later at the story progresses you realize it can be limiting and cause problems later in the story. One example of this is there seems to be a strange plot hole where Mc can cultivate in our world with zero problems. Some of it is somewhat explained but other parts not really. There is also the issue of time. There are secondary characters in the real world, but time moves the same between worlds so unless the novel has the MC blitz like crazy (or being other people to cultivation world which is hard to do well) they will just sorta die off. The story would also go to the point where the author would have to make up a fictional future for the modern world because of time as well. Which I don’t trust to be satisfying in a Chinese novel. All of this said, the novle premise is pretty cool, the mc romances have detials, the side character are actually good and are better then the average card board ones, and the mc is a legit demonic cultivator (to an extent) which are all big pluses. So I still recommend giving it a try for a few chapters and if the issues I mention bother you drop it there and you can still have enjoyed a few chapters.

A Deeply Troubling and Problematic Series "Gate: Don't Call Me a Demon!" had the potential to be an entertaining and thought-provoking take on the cultivation genre. However, the series is marred by blatant racism and xenophobia that makes it impossible to enjoy. The author's portrayal of certain cultures and ethnicities is rooted in stereotypes and bigotry. The depiction of Japanese culture, in particular, is cartoonish and demeaning, relying on outdated and offensive tropes. The series' handling of sensitive topics is similarly tone-deaf. Furthermore, the protagonist's actions and attitudes towards people from different backgrounds are often predatory and exploitative. The power dynamics at play are deeply unsettling, and the author's attempts to pass off these behaviors as humorous or justified are appalling. The racism and xenophobia in this series are not just minor issues; they are fundamental problems that undermine the entire narrative. The author's failure to address these concerns or provide meaningful representation is a glaring oversight. I strongly advise against reading this series. Instead, seek out works that promote empathy, understanding, and inclusivity.

A Promising Concept Marred by Problematic Execution Don't Call Me a Demon!, has an intriguing storyline and concept, exploring the idea of cultivation and the blurred lines between good and evil. However, the execution falls short due to the author's careless and inaccurate portrayal of certain cultural elements. The novel's reliance on stereotypes and cultural appropriation is not only disrespectful but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes. It's disappointing to see a promising concept undermined by such problematic elements. I hope the author will take the opportunity to learn from their mistakes and improve their representation of diverse cultures in the future. Until then, I would advise readers to approach with caution.

A Refreshing Take on Cultivation, but Plot Armor Holds it Back "Gate: Don't Call Me a Demon!" is a wildly entertaining ride that turns traditional cultivation tropes on their head. Su Jie's unorthodox methods of cultivating power are both shocking and hilarious, making for a compelling narrative that's hard to put down. The author's satirical take on the genre is clever and thought-provoking, raising questions about morality and the nature of good and evil. The world-building is vivid and immersive, with a unique blend of fantasy and modern elements. However, one major issue holds me back from giving this series a perfect score: the protagonist's ridiculously strong plot armor. Su Jie's ability to wriggle out of seemingly impossible situations without any real consequences starts to feel like a cop-out. It's frustrating to see him face no meaningful repercussions for his actions, which undermines the tension and stakes. If the author can find a way to balance Su Jie's abilities with more realistic challenges and consequences, this series could truly reach its full potential.

It was good at the start but after chapter 40 -ish, author kept implying that china is numba one. This story is not for me. I like chinese novels and I don't really mind if they shove one or two propaganda in the story. But if the story has too many of it, its just ruins the fun.

The summary is genuinely misleading. Make no mistake this is an evil SOB that goes full demonic cultivator after 6 months spent in the cultivation world. There is no nuance in the Earth plot lines as every punch line is straight murder. The story does not lean into its strong point of its “cheat” with the safe and industrialized environment of Earth, instead a very crude and xenophobic depiction of the world emerges quickly after around 200 chapters. The story tries to do two contradictory things by developing a warlord pseudostate plot line while also trying to maintain its tycoon/business plot at the same time. It’s like if the Taliban started to sell Ozempic. The power fantasy is overdone to the point plot holes are the only things fueling the exponential progression of the Earth storyline as the author hates nuance. The cultivation world plot line is bog-standard for the most part which sucks because it’s just the same cultivation story we’ve all read hundreds of times already. The biggest sin is the story not playing into “he’s a demonic cultivator, but is he actually a good person?” trope alluded to in the summary. The story never evolves, and the author increasingly places more focus on his B-plot about retaliating and winning against the US government and NATO. Translation is obviously done with AI, and poor quality oversight leads to names of countries, people, and other proper nouns to change. Gender is inconsistent, grammar is weird in some places, Chinese idioms are translated horribly and just left there—it’s the entire cocktail of bad translation.

A unique novel with an interesting take on the fusion of technology and magic between a cultivation world and the urban world, not overpowered magic tech but definitely a leg up from normal tech. Also has pretty good country development and theoretical war using said magic tech. Overall definitely a good read and looking forward to more chapters.

I like it, but it needs more releases, translator hurry up bro, I'm on mtl rn having brain damage because this is nowhere near the latest...btw one of the mtl line I read was. "Nisienji Ito, you are the sinner of all of us Sakura Chinese. It is even more abominable than Kenichi Araki. Why don't you give me a semen to apologize?" 💀💀💀 Anyways your brain learns to adapt and filter and retranslate the meaning like ("sakura Chinese" is literally just those Japanese, "Beautiful country" is USA) yeah this gives me a stroke fr.
