It's now been a month since I've been transmigrated into this body and I have yet to exit my room.
Although they have been bringing to me some food, the only real contact I've had with anyone has been my maid, Shiela. Although it doesn't look like she trusts that I have really lost my memory fully, she still agreed to play the game and take care of me as if I've lost my memory. Thanks to that I have been able to get a decent amount of information about this era.
So, as I could have assumed earlier, we are indeed in a medieval like period. So, most carriages still use horses although some use mythical creatures if they were rich enough. Apart from that, modern technology didn't really exist, instead the substituted most of it with magic. Because of it, the need for devices such as fridges never had any need.
Honestly, I was a bit worried to see what the slums looked like in these parts, since the rich didn't run the risk of getting sick, I doubted they invested much on things like aqueducts. Well, it was one of the many problems that I could foresee with the use of magic, but for now I couldn't really confirm anything since I was stuck in my room.
Luckly Shiela explained to me and brought me books about the general information of this world and especially magic.
So first, they called this planet Trophonius, although the origin of the name was never said it was mentioned that the name was related to the origin of magic. Currently we were in the Treck empire. Comparing it to other empires, it was decently big with a fairly short history (about 300 years) but the most important thing to know was that it was in a golden age of magic. The current emperor was a magic swordsman who had reached the 7th tier of magic as well as being an incredible aura user. Excluding him it did seem like there were a lot of strong mages in the country. The continent where we resided currently was very warm, they never had things such as snow and ice. Sometimes ice caverns did appear, but as a whole the continent was a very dry and had an abundant forest area.
The last thing I learned a lot about was magic. Magic was an interesting topic to learn about, just what was it? Honestly, none of the books I read seemed to have even studied its definition, but I figured I would have time to learn about it myself in the future. But in the meantime, I learnt the categorizations of magic.
Typically, magic is seen as elements, so the regular elements you would see in magic typically are fire, wind, water, ice, earth, etc. That's the general idea of it, its very rare that someone doesn't awaken one of these general elements.
There 3 other categories of magic and all are typically hereditary.
Firstly, there is holy magic, which is in fact the exception. Holy magic uses one's belief in God as its source, so the more one believes and puts its faith in god, the more he can use the power. The power is typically uses for warding off evil, using it for healing and for protection. In a war it is very rare to see someone use holy magic in a one-on-one fight unless they are a paladin blessed by this god.
Secondly, it is personal variance in elements. Like the Adays family who uses green flames, natural elements can present themselves in different colours depending on the personality of the person thus presenting a new range of power for the element. In this case it probably meant that they're family was close with nature and that they were generally people who liked peace. Well, I didn't really know if I agreed with that but that was the most logical explanation based on what I read.
Thirdly there are dual elements. Although it wasn't really two elements, but sometimes you would see elements such as magma appear which were a mix of both fire and ground magic. But these were exceptionally rare.
Finally, there was unique magic that were the rarest of all and were highly sought after kingdoms and were only hereditary. Aura was an example of it, manifesting a form of magic threw understanding of the sword, or musical arts were another good example. The number of families known to have this sort of magic were under a hundred. But that's what maid the current emperor so impressive, his unique magic, aura was already extremely powerful and yet he managed to also get to the 7th tier of magic. Typically, a country only has a single 8th tier magician and 3-5 7th tier magician.
That's generally how magic was classified. Magicians awakened they're elements at the age of 16 which was why all the nobles were sent to the empires magical academy that was now in a month's time so they could awaken they're elements with easy and then had the tools to help them grow.
Finally, there was me. Joel Harminson. My parents died after an attack at our family house. Although we didn't have a manor like the Adayus family, we still had a respectable house. But it seemed that at night someone managed to get inside the house and murder my parents. When they're bodies were found they were badly mangled and had clear indications of being tortured. While as me, apart from a large wound to the hand there wasn't much damage to the body. But because of that it did seem like a lot of people suspected me. Especially my godmother from earlier in the month, she was good friends with my parents and was also one of the reasons I was engaged with her daughter. On top of all of that, to make things worse apparently, I was quite a horrible human being, laughing at the poor and making there lives miserable as well as everyone around me.
I was lucky that Shiela was patient with me and so nice with me even though she didn't believe me, or else I think I would have struggled to get this much information in such a short amount of time while being locked in here.
At least now I had some of the basic information to start acting on my own. There were a thew things that I wanted to try and do before I was sent to the academy.
First, I still wanted to identify whether this was actually earth or not. By looking at the stars and trying to see if there is an identifiable pattern maybe I could determine whether or not this is earth and if so where was I exactly. This might take a while though, because they had no such things as calculators or anything to run a simulation threw, I had to do everything by hand.
Second, I wanted to try investigating on Joel's parents death, whatever happened then could still pose a risk for myself so I had to figure out what happened. At the same time, maybe I could clear up some of the misunderstanding with the people around me.
Third, I wanted to start making preparation sheets to study magic, although I couldn't study it currently because I had no magic myself and I was locked in this room, I still wanted to have everything ready for when I would start, it would make things a whole lot easier when it does eventually happen.
I turned my head towards the door, Shiela just walked in with a new load of clothes. Although I didn't have my own personal wardrobe, she would always bring me a new change of clothes every day, never having the same one as the day before. In fact in the whole month, I've been here it had only happened a few times where I wore the same clothes. I did try to tell her it was unnecessary, but she responded telling me that she wasn't in charge of the clothes. It seemed like my godfamily was the one giving me these clothes, I should thank them once I have the chance, it mustn't have been cheap. Well, that was if I saw them before I left, but in the mean time I had my own things to do.
- Hey Shiela, do you think you could get me some writing books, a few papers and some quills?
She looked at me and nodded in surprise. I don't know why but since a few days ago she had stopped talking to me as much as she used to, I hope she didn't get in trouble because of me.
She lay down the clothes on the sofa and left with a smile, I didn't really know why though, it was all a bit weird. But I was happy she still respected my privacy and didn't ask why I needed it.
She came back a few minutes later and give me a beautiful leather book with engravings all around it, in it was a few hundred pages or so, some sheets of parchment paper and a beautiful green quill.
It was time to get to work.
