Calculations

It was still daytime, so I first had to determine what were the variables I had to take into account before starting. Firs of all stars how they're own speed and velocity, afterwards was our owns planet speed and angle. Depending on weather I was on the northern or southern hemisphere it would change certain things, although that was easy to do. Finally, there was also the rotational speed of the galaxy.

Honestly, I was already confident that I was still on earth, maybe just in a different time period of some sorts. It was all too weird.

The rotational speed of the milky way was of 828 000 km/h (515 miles/h).

A stars speed it typically around the 100km/s mark.

Finally, to determine weather I was in the northern or southern hemisphere I had to look which one you could see the milky way.

In typical fashion you would be able to see in a perfectly clear sky the core of the milky way in the southern hemisphere, but you wouldn't be able to in the north. But I could determine that I was on the northern side of the southern hemisphere since I could see it in the sky from my balcony. That's why I was confident it was still earth, it looked eerily similar to what we could see on earth.

But I still had to determine with the constellations to be certain. There were still a few things that made it uncertain, for example the moon looked drastically different. Not only was it a lot closer to earth, but it had also a lot less bruises indicating that we were a lot earlier in earths past if it was true.

And so, I waited, I wrote down everything I remembered from my past, the locations of the stars, the distance that separated each of them, they're names. I wrote down as much as I could in my book.

It was now starting to be nighttime, a few stars started to come out. I noted down them down, the stars being now or in the past or future, the stars should still be just as bright, so the first and last to appear should be the same.

I spent the first night like this, then the second, third and fourth. It took a long time as expected to collect all the data.

Well, all of my star gazing and sleeping during the day seemed to have caught the attention of someone because the butler Arnold opened the doors at night to come talk.

At the time I was on the balcony, double checking a last time the locations of the stars before I started to make calculations.

- Joel, Lady Adayus wishes to see you tomorrow breakfast, she requests that you have a good night sleep tonight.

- Oh, alright no problem I will be there tomorrow.

I did an awkward half bow to the butler before he left.

It seemed like I had done something big enough for my godmother to change her decision on me staying in my bedroom for the full 2 months.

It was already late, and Arnold hadn't mentioned at what time breakfast was to them, I didn't want to be sleeping in on my single opportunity to get out of this bedroom.

And so, I went to bed and quite frankly I was a bit excited to see how things would go the next day.

Sleep quickly fell over me, the quiet piece the manor had compared to the war waging earth that I came from just put me at ease… it was almost scary how quickly I could fall asleep but luckily for myself I didn't need to be worried of being killed or kidnapped for experiments at night.

I woke up to some knocks at my door. I lifted my head up, how early was it? I didn't usually wake up this early, the birds themselves were barely getting up. I really did miss the days where I could wake up whenever and go to work on my own time… the good old day.

I sat up with a groan, the shining light were radiating inside the room. Sadly, the appeasing atmosphere didn't last long as knocks were heard again.

- Joel you need to wake up, we need to get you dressed for breakfast.

It was Shiela's voice.

- Yes yes I'm awake now… you can come in.

The doors opened and Shiela walked in, to my surprise she came in with 2 other maids beside her. Both had the same attire as her, one had green hair, it was curly long hair that went to her shoulders. The other had purple hair, this time a long and straight hair that was put into a ponytail.

It was the first time I had seen exotic hair like that. I had confirmed with Siela earlier that it was natural, no one died they're hair. Even while knowing that, it still took me by surprise as I looked at it. I wondered what the chemical composition was to make something like that. Maybe magic could alter chemical components?

- Madame requested you to clean up and change into a proper attire. You'll need to take a bath as well, that's why these two will help you since you do not remember how they function.

I nodded awkwardly, although I had asked to take a shower or a bath, my request was always denied. First of all, I wasn't allowed outside of my room and then they said I wouldn't remember because I had lost my memory. I couldn't really refute them, but at least they had given me a handy item that utilised water magic to wash me. I had never figured out how it worked though.

And now thankfully I was going to get the chance to go… I just hoped I could send the 2 girls away politely.

I sighed dejectedly.

- Please show the way il follow you…

Shiela nodded and indicated to follow her.

As we walked out of the doors, I finally took my first steps outside my bedroom since I had arrived.

I took in a long breath… it felt good to finally be out of that room. I kept looking around while walking.

The walls were lavishly decorated. White marble with a whole bunch of paintings. Although I had seen glimpses of the paintings from when they would open the door, it was the first time I could see them properly. It was a series of painting that told a story, it was a mage with golden hair and green flames. Clearly it was one of the Adayus's family's ancestors. In the painting he was fighting a dragon who spat out lightings, it seemed like creatures from western mythology existed in this world. It was fascinating, it seemed like the ancestor was an important figure in the past basing it off of the expressions of the citizens depicted in the painting.

- The paintings were ordered a few years ago for mister Adayus's 15th His grandfather was his idol when he was younger but sadly, he died while giving the last blow to Phyrax, the lightning dragon. I had shaken him quite a bit when he was younger, but he still wished to commemorate his achievements and for him to be remembered. That's why in the last picture it shows him as victorious with everyone applauding him while the sad reality of it was that he died during his last attack to finish Phyrax.

I was taken aback, it wasn't the explanation I was waiting for. I thought Shiela would tell me how grandiose the man was and how he defeated the dragon. But it was the opposite if anything, he died an untimely death, but a death of a warrior.

I stayed quite for the rest of the trip to the baths, it was only a thew corners away, so it didn't take too long either way.

The bath was a bit less majestic then what I had expected. I had probably left my mind go a bit to wild since we were at a Ducal household. The bath was yes fairly large with running water, but there were no decorations or anything of the sort, it was a very plain room.

- Joel, just to inform you, unlike what you prefer usually we will need to help you change and wash yourself.

I looked at her awkwardly… Did I really need to? If not, I really preferred not to.

- Do I need to… you know I don't want to be touched by someone else… I can wash myself.

She sighed again and looked at me. She pulled out a weird object, it was a pink bottle with golden engraving around.

- Do you know how to use this?

- No… but if you explain it to me then I can use it myself.

Shiela smiled and passed the bottle to the girl with green hair.

- I would explain to you, but sadly we don't have the time so I wont explain it this time, I'm really sorry.

She looked truly apologetic so I resigned myself to my fate, I knew Shiela wouldn't let something bad happen to me so I shouldn't be too worried about anything except for this whole ordeal to be a bit awkward…

I glanced back at her and nodded defeatedly, she turned around and left. I was now alone with the two new maids.
