Chapter 23: The Ghost Brother's Love Debt

Tang Mizi admired Luo Li's keen observation. "So, her marriage prospects have been disrupted."

Luo Li nodded. "Yes, whether she marries or not, she won't be able to become the official wife of the man she desires."

This type of "Jia" face has always been associated with the fate of a beautiful yet tragic woman, and with her soft voice and gentle demeanor, it's even harder to escape.

Tang Mizi suggested, "Why don't we check her palm lines to confirm her current fate?"

Luo Li shook his head. "No need. It's clear that she's currently caught in a love affair. Her marriage palace is dull, and she's entangled in a bad romantic situation. All we need to do is ask about her romantic history, and we'll have our answer."

The matter was delicate, and she couldn't afford to hide the truth.

The two of them went to Sun Lin's office and got straight to the point.

At first, Sun Lin tried to avoid the topic and wasn't willing to be honest.

But when Luo Li asked how long it had been since she last visited her former lover's grave, Sun Lin was shocked.

This was a secret known only to her. When she was in high school, she had a boyfriend from Macheng County. His father was a high-ranking official in the county, and his family was well-off. However, the boy himself was nothing like the typical arrogant offspring of officials; he was academically excellent, humble, and very well-liked.

The only flaw was that they were involved in a premature romance. But that was understandable—at such a tender age, their feelings for each other were pure and strong.

This relationship was very precious to Sun Lin, whose family background was modest. Their love continued even when they went to different universities in different cities due to their significant difference in exam scores. To ease the pain of separation, her boyfriend traveled back and forth every month to see her.

As Sun Lin recounted this part, her face showed pain. "The last time he came to see me, he stayed for two extra days to celebrate my birthday. But then his father unexpectedly decided to visit him at school. His family had never approved of us; they thought I wasn't good enough for him."

Sun Lin's tone was bitter. "That time, he had to rush back to school by the afternoon. Since there were no train tickets available, he took a bus. The bus had an accident just outside the city. By the time I got there, he was already gone, covered in blood, without a single word left. It's been ten years, but I still remember his bloody appearance. It was his family that killed him. His father suspected we were still in contact and insisted on checking on him. If it weren't for the fear of being caught by his family, he wouldn't have taken that bus."

Luo Li and Tang Mizi both sighed—fate can be so cruel, and from each perspective, no one seemed to be entirely at fault.

Sun Lin likely harbored deep resentment toward her boyfriend's family, blaming them for trying to break them up and looking down on her. This might have driven her to work so hard to succeed.

After explaining the situation, Sun Lin looked at the two and asked, "Is the trouble at my factory related to him?"

Luo Li responded, "It's very likely."

"But why? If he's still here, why haven't I felt it? And why would he want to harm me?"

Luo Li thought: that's something you'll have to ask yourself.

Tang Mizi spoke directly, "Boss Sun, we're quite certain this matter is related to your former lover. If he's the only one who's passed away, then it must be him. You might want to consider why, after all these years, he's only now choosing to reappear in your life."

Sun Lin's expression changed subtly, but she didn't respond.

The two didn't press her further, knowing that by tonight, they would understand everything.

Even Kang Thirteen's snake spirit couldn't handle this, which meant the situation was not simple.

After dinner, Luo Li asked Sun Lin if she wanted to join them that night, but she declined.

The workers had been dismissed early, and Luo Li and Tang Mizi began their preparations.
