Chapter 24: Cause and Effect

The ghost brother continued without waiting for Luo Li to respond, "I've been by her side for years, watching her accumulate wealth through manipulation and exchange of favors. I hate her for her lack of self-respect, yet I feel heartbroken. I know what her issue is—she resents my family for looking down on her. But she shouldn't be harming my sister. Back then, my sister was the only one who blessed us, and now she's trying to get involved with my brother-in-law."

Luo Li finally understood the origin of the problem. "Harm your sister? How does sabotaging her factory make your sister happy?"

"My brother-in-law is only thirty-five and already a department head. Divorce would harm his political career, but he needs money. Sun Lin provides him with the funds he needs to operate. Now she's playing her trump card, forcing my sister to step aside voluntarily. My sister would rather bend than break; she would rather die than let Sun Lin get what she wants. Sun Lin also holds a lot of half-true, half-false evidence against my family. If things escalate, even my retired father will be dragged into it." He clenched his fists.

Luo Li realized the situation was indeed quite troublesome. He glanced at Tang Mizi outside and thought that maybe Tang Mizi had some experience with this kind of issue.

To the man in the suit, Luo Li said, "I understand what you want and will find a way to help you achieve it. Starting today, you shouldn't come back. Even if we don't take action against you, she might find others to help her, and you'll be in danger. You'll be left with nothing but chaos, and it'll harm your group of ghosts."

The man in the suit bowed his head, silent.

Luo Li added, "To be blunt, you have to follow my plan. This is the only path available. Since I promised to help you, I will fulfill that promise. What else do you need?" His tone had turned stern.

Reluctantly, the man in the suit said, "First, release my friends and give me a definite time when things will be handled."

"They will be fine as soon as you leave. It will take no more than three days. At that time, I will set up a formation to bring you out again. We'll settle the score for you, and then you should 'leave.' Otherwise, I will personally 'escort' you."

Without waiting for a response, Luo Li threw a talisman. With a "whoosh," the talisman ignited, and the man in the suit and his "friends" vanished without a trace.

Luo Li came out, and Tang Mizi had also relaxed, asking about the situation.

Luo Li smiled, "Kang Thirteen's deity is really ineffective. This ghost has a bit of yang energy. It has lingered between the realms of the living and the dead for ten years, gathering a group of wandering souls to do its bidding. Since it doesn't involve karma, it's remained undetected. It used yang energy to conceal itself and hide among humans and ghosts, making it hard to detect without proper means."

Tang Mizi responded, "I haven't encountered this situation before, but I've heard of it. Generally, those who meddle with karma attract the attention of the underworld. Why would he want to take revenge on his former lover?"

Luo Li explained the situation and then said, "Senior Tang, I'm more skilled in magic, but you have more experience with human affairs. Please handle this matter."

Tang Mizi shot him a look. "Do you still need to be polite? Here's the deal: I don't have any apprentices, and my relatives aren't interested in my possessions. Whatever is mine will be yours, and what is yours will remain yours." Seeing Luo Li about to object, Tang Mizi continued, "You saved my life. If you saved me, shouldn't you handle my affairs as well?"

It almost sounded like Luo Li was getting a bargain by accepting his legacy. Luo Li didn't know what to say. Men don't need many words; understanding each other's intentions is enough. Actions speak louder than words.

Luo Li walked over and sat beside Tang Mizi. "Senior Tang, you'd better live a long life. I'm afraid that by the time I learn your methods, you might be gone. If I get deceived later, don't blame me."
