Chapter 26: Each Doing Their Part

She felt uneasy and was unsure if she was making the right choice. But thinking about her ex-boyfriend, who had always watched her but never wanted to meet, filled her with anger. After finally moving past her emotional pain and almost finding happiness with another man, he had come back to cause trouble.

Her feelings for me were all false; he only cared about his family. Otherwise, he wouldn't have died because of his father's threats. It's not unfair for someone to deal with him. And those two damn Taoists, meddling in ghost matters, it's too much.

Resolving herself, she shook off her thoughts. She questioned if it was really worth it. That Lu Ming had an air of malevolence and preferred older women. At the party at Ah Li's house, he had looked at her with a frightening expression.

The airport announced that her flight was about to board.

She stood up, steadied herself, and walked resolutely into the cabin.

Back in Macheng, Kang Shisan was hiding in the office of the soy sauce factory, searching for "evidence." She had already searched Sun Lin's home but found nothing, so she returned to the office. Luo Li had criticized her for being foolish, saying that the sister-in-law of "Ghost Brother" must visit Sun Lin's home frequently, so it was unlikely the evidence would be there. Kang Shisan didn't argue.

The snake spirit had pried open a safe, which was filled with money and ledgers. Kang Shisan swallowed and put it back. The snake spirit was now prying open a second safe. There was a commotion, and the workshop manager, Zhang Heihei, entered with a key. Kang Shisan had named him Zhang Heihei, and she hadn't expected him to have a key to Sun Lin's office.

Zhang Heihei turned on the lights and looked around. Finding nothing, he left. Kang Shisan was almost suffocating in the drawer, and when she finally emerged, she heard the sound of keys and quickly hid again.

Zhang Heihei came back, checked around, and Kang Shisan's heart nearly jumped out of her throat. Fortunately, Zhang Heihei never imagined someone would hide in a drawer and eventually left after confirming everything was in order.

Kang Shisan waited a long time, making sure Zhang Heihei had really left, before crawling out and stretching. It was a bizarre scene that would scare anyone who saw it.

She continued to let the snake spirit work. Inside the safe were love letters, seven or eight of them, with different names. What a woman, keeping these for who knows what. She picked out one letter, stored it, and closed the safe.

There were only two safes, and she hadn't found what she was looking for. She had searched everywhere. It couldn't be hidden in the wall, so she had to search all places with her scent. She took out a pen commonly used by Sun Lin for the snake spirit to smell and went out.

She walked to Zhang Heihei's office. The lights were on, and Zhang Heihei was inside. Kang Shisan crouched by the window, hanging upside down like a gecko, peering inside.

What was that? Zhang Heihei was taking a pile of documents from his cabinet, stacking them neatly, and putting them into a plastic bag. He looked around as if searching for a place to hide them.

There was a chance. Kang Shisan felt this was the thing she was looking for, unexpectedly found in this place.

She signaled the snake spirit to act. The snake spirit blew a breath.

Zhang Heihei stood still, and Kang Shisan quietly opened the door and slipped in.

"Hand it over, you black devil." She took the bag from the dazed man, and indeed, it was what she was looking for. Carefully sorting the names, she took out everything she needed and put it in her arms, putting the rest back in the bag. It seemed a bit light, so she grabbed a few more notebooks from the shelf and added them in.
