She tried to nudge him aside, but his body didn't even budge. With the table behind her, there was nowhere for her to go.
Thorndyke leaned an inch closer, the smirk on his lips turning slightly wider.
"And who's to say I care about where we are?" His eyes gleamed with a hint of mischief as he glanced at his surroundings. "Besides, they can keep their distance and their eyes to themselves."
Gwen's heart skipped a beat at his words, but she quickly composed herself. She wouldn't let him see how much his presence affected her.
"Oh, spare me the sweet talk," she replied, her voice a mix of annoyance and something else.
"We both know you're just trying to get under my skin."
Thorndyke tsked, his voice dropping low, "We both know that under the skin thing stopped happening a long time ago."
