"Yeah, momma made the one for the children and I helped her with it, but I made the batter for that one separately and baked it separately. Please believe me when I tell you I indeed made those." She hoped in her heart that he didn't think she was lying just to look good in front of him. She really made those, she even have some scars on her fingers to prove it. She was usually careful in the kitchen not to get burnt, but maybe because she was too excited to make something for him she had ended up burning herself a couple times.
Then she had an idea, "Ah! See I can prove I'm not lying. I got burnt here and here while making those." She lifts her hands up as her evidence for him to see. Showing him her fingers that had tasted the hotness of her baking pan, and when she looked up at his face for a moment a sort of cold washed down her spin as she saw the look on his face.
He seemed… vexed.
It was a scary look.
