"As you know, I bought this book at an auction in 2167. A man named Joseph Mark was putting it up for sale. I didn't want to lose my reputation as a book collector, so I jumped at the chance. Little did I know that this book was something special. Hundreds of famous buyers had come to this sale, and I was only allowed to sit in the fiftieth seat, to tell you how important the sale was. The reason was simple: people thought this book represented the apocalypse. I didn't believe it, only that the appraiser had approved the book's age before the auction. The book was estimated to be over 5,000 years old."
"5,000 years. That doesn't really square with Lavoisi's appearance."
"Age was a fact, certainly, but more important was that its contents were in our language. In Zvenne. It didn't make sense and so I too looked into the history of this book and asked to be advanced over 1 million to tenth place. I had to. After the auction began, the appraiser gave us all the details. An ancient book over 5,000 years old, kept by a man named Joseph Mark who claimed an inheritance, in Zvenne, speaking of a possible apocalypse where the earth would be ravaged by the war that does not come from here."
"War that doesn't come from here?"
"I didn't believe it at all anymore, but I still needed the book. From what he'd said, the scholar spoke a lot in almost incomprehensible language as if he couldn't tell the truth or was afraid of it. The rest you know. I bought the book at a high price. But at first, I didn't read it. However, after a week, I glanced at it anyway and the more I read it, the more disturbed I became. It was as if the book really spoke the truth. So I kept reading and the more I read and re-read, the more I understood it. "
Sanchez paused for a moment as if emotions were returning to him, then suddenly calmed down and blew out a breath before looking at Marc with a blank stare.
"It's terrible, you know? Knowing the truth but not being able to explain it?"
"What?"
"The scholar's book is different. The more you read it, the more truth is revealed. But not just the truth. The future, the past and the present. All explained and all illuminated as you read."
Marc was speechless. What did this man know?
"I discovered something else too. There are 4 of these books, like the four horsemen of the apocalypse. They're here to kill us."
End of volume 1
Hi everyone! This is the end of volume 1 of "The tragic story of humanity". I've really enjoyed this part and it makes me a bit sad to end it now, because I know I have a hard time accumulating readers when I'm not regular. However, I'm not giving up and I hope you'll share this story so that it can gain enough recognition and reach a good audience for volume 2.
Volume 2 will undoubtedly arrive very soon. Around 2026. Nevertheless, I'm going to concentrate on my second story, "I have to be the antagonist", which is eagerly awaited by many. Go and read it if you have the time.
Thank you for reading and liking. Although I don't have many readers, I'm delighted to have them. I'll do my best not to disappoint you with volume 2. Sincerely yours, and see you later for the tragic continuation of the story of Marc Zeymond, the slave of destiny.
