The school is coming - One shot

Author's note: This story isn't important for the main story, you don't have to read it. This is a one shot of the last day of summer. It is a story from the very beginning of my writing journey + I changed it a little bit. This moment was supposed to be in the main story, yet I forgot about it. So although it's short and pretty inqualite, I still did want to put it here at least as a one shot.

You can take it as a Nikko's memory of the last summer day.

The sun is getting more and more tired day by day. Its orange rays are constraining my vision as I try to catch Yuki's service. We've been practicing volleyball almost everyday. And if it was not volleyball, it was morning badminton. If it was not badminton, it was drawing at sunset. If not drawing, it was talking until midnight, watching stars, discovering hidden corners of Tokyo, petting strange animals and observing life. Thanks to Yuki, I'll remember this summer as the summer I lived to the fullest.

All the summer sunsets that our feet have been chilling in the river, our voices uncontrollably yapping about our intimate lives, trees whispering our secrets to nature and the whole city. These memories I made, these memories I never want to forget.

I catch the last serve, and pass it towards the last summer night. Sport has made me forget about school for a little while, although it's tomorrow.

I'm not nervous. I never am. I'm just sad. Everything is going to change once again. Another big step in my life, and I can't know what to expect. I'm tired from all the thoughts that are drowning my mind. I'd just love to sleep and let it all go, but I must not, in order to successfully begin the school year.

We sit at the concrete ground on the field, and let the summer breeze refresh us, the sun setting in front of our eyes.

I ask Yuki about how she feels about it. About school. To my surprise she is nervous.

" You know that feeling when your appetite goes away and you feel like throwing up from everything that you put in your mouth the whole day?"

" Yeah" I answer

" That's how I feel. The nervosity has been eating me up." She looks towards the sun, preserving her usual demeanor, not showing a single bit of her anxiety.

" Yuki, what about we go there together? I think it'd be less stressful for both of us." I say, hoping she'll agree. Facing this with a person like Yuki would make me much calmer.

" Nikko, I prefer to be alone in situations like these, but if I'd make you more comfortable..." She says hesitantly.

" It's alright. I can face it alone. I don't want you to sacrifice for me"

Imagining myself facing the first day alone has made my heart beat faster, I'm getting nervous…

As you already know, everything went kind of fine, and Nikko eventually bumped into his charming friend Hoshi, whom he ends up being in a situationship with. Crazy how random this is.

I decided to publish this just to convey what Yuki truly means to Nikko. She made that the best summer for him, and she worked with him on his volleyball skills which he was really insecure about when he decided to join the school volleyball club. They have built a really strong bond in a very short period of time due to their compatibility, and you can see a bit of it here too.

Hope you enjoyed this really short one shot.

I swear I need to get back on track with my writing (^-^; …
