The Gentle Giant

That night, the thrill of our sneaky hand-holding left my body flowing with adrenaline, making sleep elusive. I quietly slipped out of the room, drawn by curiosity to the open balcony door. Peeking outside, I was surprised to find Mico sitting there alone, his headphones on, gazing thoughtfully into the night.

"Hi, I said softly but I got no response. He must not have heard me with his headphones on. I poked him gently on the back. Startled, he removed his headphones and looked at me with a relieved smile.

"Oh, it's just you, Eli," he said, catching his breath. "I guess you couldn't sleep either with my Dad snoring so loudly?"

I shook my head. "Not really. I've just got a lot on my mind," I replied.

Truth be told, Uncle Rick's snoring barely amidst the thoughts of Jake that occupied my mind. This was our first real conversation, not just a passing hello from the day before. We ended up chatting about everything and nothing, and handed me his headphones when I asked what he was listening to. Mico looks like Robin, but his hair is so long that his eyes are hidden behind his bangs. I offered to tie his hair up, and he gratefully accepted. With his hair pulled back, he resembled a sumo wrestler more than ever. We discovered a shared love for anime, which led to a delightful chat about our favorite shows.

In the midst of our conversation, I couldn't resist asking him about our childhood."Mico, do you remember how you used to pinch me and chase me around?" I asked with a playful grin, looking for a bit of revenge.

His laughter boomed as if hearing it for the first time. "Really? I don't remember that at all!"

I chuckled along with him but with a mischievous grin. "Yes, really! Ask anyone—you were quite the little bully back then. "

Our laughter filled the night air, and after a while, we headed back inside to get some much-needed rest. I was glad for the chance to bond with Mico. It was heartwarming to see how we had grown closer. It's funny and a bit ironic that the little kid who couldn't forgive his cousin is now so fond of the gentle giant he's become.
