Chapter 109

Even though they'd lost the last few rallies, his energy hadn't dimmed for a second. His enthusiasm blazed like a fire refusing to be doused.

Smack!

Fukurodani's back row received the serve cleanly, the ball sailing into the air.

Bokuto raised his right hand and shouted, "Akaashi!"

"Send it here!"

Akaashi turned his head to glance at him. He didn't speak—but his actions spoke louder than words.

With a flick of his arms, Akaashi leapt into the air for a jump set.

Whoosh.

The ball drew a graceful arc across the court, flying straight toward Bokuto.

At the same time, Akira and two blockers surged forward to intercept.

Akira jumped.

He was aiming to block Bokuto.

And just as the net play began, people noticed something.

Akira's takeoff—this time—it was even higher than before.

"Wait... this guy," one of the Nekoma players muttered in the crowd, "he wasn't even going full force before?"

"That's insane..."

The Otokoma crowd murmured with astonishment, their eyes tracking Akira's form in midair.

His arms descended powerfully over the net, sealing off nearly all of Bokuto's possible angles.

It was a wall.

And Bokuto, staring at the formidable blockade in front of him, didn't flinch.

If anything, it fired him up even more.

He roared and swung with everything he had—his entire torso twisting, wrist snapping down hard.

Boom!

The ball cut through the air like lightning, slipping past Akira's arms at a wickedly sharp angle.

Straight to the backcourt.

A flicker of surprise crossed Akira's eyes.

The wall hadn't been impenetrable. But based on Bokuto's previous form, Akira hadn't expected him to land such a precision smash.

But this hit—this hit surpassed all of Bokuto's earlier plays.

He'd slammed it through, bypassing Akira entirely.

At this crucial moment, it was Nishinoya—Karasuno's libero—who dove at full stretch, fishing the ball out from the edge of despair.

"No way! He actually dug that out!?"

Bokuto's eyes widened in disbelief. He'd already turned halfway to receive the cheers from his team—but Nishinoya had somehow pulled it off.

"What a freakin' libero...!"

Even so, the receive had been awkward.

"Sorry!" Nishinoya hissed through clenched teeth. "I couldn't control it better...!"

The ball was careening away, and with Kageyama too far to get there in time, the set seemed doomed.

But nobody blamed Nishinoya—no one expected that dig to succeed in the first place. He'd already performed a miracle.

Now the rest was up to his teammates.

As the ball dipped, Daichi—Karasuno's captain—bolted toward it. He lunged and struck the ball with a quick underhand, sending it toward the front.

"Final hit!"

The ball soared—toward Akira.

But the pass was rushed and awkward. The ball hovered lower than ideal, even dipping beneath the top of the net.

Across the court, the Fukurodani blockers' eyes lit up.

This was it.

A golden chance.

The ball's low trajectory made it difficult to spike cleanly. If Akira mishandled it, it would become a free ball—or worse, a direct point for Fukurodani.

The three blockers on the other side zeroed in on Akira.

Such a low ball was easy to block. All you had to do was jump higher than its height and cover the angle.

Even if your attacker could leap to the ceiling, if the ball's too low, it's physically impossible to send it over the net cleanly.

And a full-powered smash? Not happening—not without driving it into the net or sending it skyward.

In their minds, the Fukurodani blockers had already claimed this point.

Boom!

The three blockers jumped together, matching Akira's movement.

Three pairs of arms extended overhead like a storm cloud, descending upon the volleyball like a tidal wave.

Everyone watching thought the same thing:

This point's lost.

There's no way he can beat that.

But Akira didn't go for brute force.

Instead, mid-air, he twisted behind the ball and extended his right hand.

A gentle touch.

Like a lover's caress.

It was so fast, so subtle, that most of the spectators didn't even see it clearly.

But it was completely within expectations. A ball that low could only be played with finesse.

And yet—

What happened next made everyone's eyes widen in disbelief.

The ball, touched gently by Akira, spun with wicked side rotation.

It didn't fly straight—it rotated and soared directly above the net.

Right into the wall of blockers arms.

Everyone expected it to be stuffed.

Trapped.

Done.

The blocked ball would fall.

Game over.

Thwack!

The ball collided with the blockers' hands—just as predicted.

But instead of dropping, it spun fiercely to the side.

The side-spin that Akira had imparted caused the ball to bounce diagonally—escaping the blockers' control.

And it flew—just beyond the boundary line!

Smack!

Out-of-bounds!

Karasuno point!

The whistle blew. The gymnasium seemed to freeze for a moment.

Akira—against all odds—had scored from a hopeless position.

He hadn't just scored.

He'd won the match.

Gasps rippled through the audience. Confusion. Awe. Excitement.

The players from both teams stared in stunned silence.

What just happened?

That final point—the very one that should've been impossible—had been taken by sheer intuition, control, and spin.

Akira stood there, panting softly, sweat glistening down his temple.

For a second, there was nothing but silence.

And then—cheers exploded.

"YEEEEEAHHHHH!!"

Karasuno's bench erupted in roars, fists thrown into the air.

Hinata jumped up and down, hugging Tanaka. Kageyama let out a breath, lips twitching. Nishinoya shouted, "DID YOU SEE THAT?! AKIRA IS INSANE!!"

Even Daichi couldn't help but smile, clapping once with pride.

Across the court, Bokuto stood frozen.

He blinked. Then blinked again.

And suddenly—he burst out laughing.

"That was CRAZY!" he shouted. "Akira, man! You're wild!"

The game was over.

Karasuno had won.

But the excitement in the air? That was just getting started.
