Jake
The night air was cool, the garden's fragrance still lingering as Laura and I walked hand in hand back to the car. Her laughter still echoed in my ears, her smile etched in my mind. I couldn't stop glancing at her, my beautiful wife, glowing under the soft moonlight.
But then… something scary happened.
Laura's hand suddenly tightened around mine, and she let out a sharp, strangled cry.
"Laura?" I stopped dead in my tracks, my heart slamming into my ribcage. She bent slightly at the waist, clutching her stomach with both hands.
"Ahh… Jake…" she whispered, her voice trembling with pain.
Panic surged through me like ice in my veins. "What is it? Talk to me, sweetheart. What's wrong?" I let out with my voice laced with fear.
She squeezed her eyes shut, her face pale and twisted in pain. "It's… my stomach. It hurts. Oh God, it hurts so bad." She let out.
I didn't think. I didn't pause. I didn't breathe.
