Mr. and Mrs. Robbins

Jake

The waiting room was suffocating. The pale walls, the flickering fluorescent lights, and the distant sounds of monitors and hospital buzzers, all of it felt like it was pressing down on me. I leaned against the wall, running a hand over my face, trying to calm the storm raging inside me.

"Mr. Robbins?" a familiar voice said, pulling me out of my daze.

It was the police officer who had escorted us here. He approached with a careful expression, hands tucked in his belt.

"Officer… uh…" I realized I didn't even know his name.

"Officer Daniels," he supplied, giving me a small nod. "How's your wife?"

I exhaled, shoulders sagging slightly. "Stable. They're running tests, but she's resting now. I… I can't thank you enough, Officer Daniels. If you hadn't shown up when you did, I don't know if we would've made it in time."
