Chapter 2 - From day 1 to 2 years old

When Henry woke up from his first out of womb nap, he soon ate some more. Then he was passed from person to person, looking at their blurry faces unless they moved their faces very close to him. He wasn't sure if his father was alive, much less if he was in the room. Still though, Henry hoped that one of the men holding him with bright eyes and a smile were his father, or even a grandfather, or uncle.

Soon enough they stopped passing Henry around like he was some kind of hot potato. About the same time that he had grown tired of it, and begun to cry.

He was passed back to his mother, where he fed, and then quickly fell asleep again.

There wasn't much of note for a while. Henry wasn't strong enough to lift his head, or talk or much else besides lying and sleeping.

He started recognizing the faces of people other than his mom after about a month, and started recognizing some of the sounds they called him.

A very common one that he came to believe was his name; is Kai.

At 2 months old he could finally begin to lift his head and look around sometimes for brief moments, which naturally proved to be of significant value to his learning, although focusing was quite hard due to still poor vision.

Henry/kai started smiling at his mom at 3 months old, as well as following objects with his eyes, as well as playing small games where Henry/kai would giggle and laugh. He could open and close his hands at 3 months.

At 4 months his baby teeth were coming in, which sucked. He cried a bit more than usual, but the warm feeling from being cleaned in his birth would surround him, making the pain go away. He saw it was a pink gas cloud type thing, that was seemingly fine to breath in and out.

That unpleasantness was somewhat balanced though. For the first time, Henry felt like his name was now more Kai than Henry. He could lift his head for an extended time while unsupported by his mom, or the men that held him. He could also roll over and begin playing by himself.

At 5 months Kai could recognize his mothers voice from others, and could see her better to reach out to her. He began showing stranger anxiety for people who's faces he didn't recognize. One man was becoming more familiar than others to him, and Kai was more hopeful that it was his father.

At 6 months Kai could sit up with some support, and was making baby language noises, trying to learn how to talk.

At 7 months he started imitating the sounds his mother and father make, and

Started playing games like peak a boo.

By 8 months Kai started crawling, responding to his new name being spoken. Kai could also sit up without being supported, and his motor control skills let him move baby toys from one hand to the other.

At 9 months Kai began waving bye bye to people he knew well when they left, looks for toys after dropping them, and could recognize himself in things like a mirror or pond reflection. His diet was increasingly moving off of his mothers milk by then, though he was still getting it.

At 10 months Kai began to eat finger fed foods, and could pull himself to standing, but not unsupported.

At 11 months Henry began to stand unsupported, drink things from cups, using more gestures, said mama first, and then dada.

He began to walk unsupported and learn new words essentially daily after that, as he was a genius in this life as well.

Time passed swiftly in his youth, with no responsibilities besides fulfilling his curiosity, while his lifetime of previous experience helped to warn of potential dangers.

When he turned 2 years old he heard a voice in his head, with a clearly female voice. "Happy Birthday Kai. I am Alexa, your Artificial Intelligence System. You have unlocked your inherited magical power, from both your mother and father."

Then Kai saw the system interface come up in his vision field, tho it didn't block his vision somehow in any way.

Kai looked at his new system with a large amount of surprise. What the heck?! An ai system? A magical ai system?! He groaned at his low health, mana, and stamina, as well as his essentially rock bottom attributes.

Looking towards his skills, Kai read their descriptions.

Active Abilities: True scholar, Martial Artist, Fundamental Force wielder.

True scholar- a lifetime of learning has enabled the user to learn new abilities. Cost 1 mana per 1 percentage of learning, which will scale with level.

Martial Artist- is a master of many forms of martial combat, and furthermore has the ability to learn more martial arts like a true prodigy. Cost 1 stamina per minute.

Fundamental force wielder- wield the fundamental forces of the universe. Gravity, Electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force, and the weak nuclear force. Cost: Use 1 mana per second.

Passive Abilities: Recovery

Recovery- After leaving active combat, recovers 1 Health, 1 mana, and 1 stamina per minute.

Kai said "hi, system can you talk to me or just provide the system?"

No response followed. He laughed to himself, ah. Well I guess not.

Kai thought it quite amazing that one of his powers was the fundamental forces of uncovere. If he masters them, he could make anything. Strong nuclear force holds atoms nucleus together, the weak nuclear force causes decay processes within the nucleus. Electromagnetism governs interactions between charged particles. Including electricity and magnetism. Super OP.

The electromagnetic force is the catalyst of chemical reactions. The power of gravity, has immense uses as well. Kai was super excited for them all. One of the first thoughts he had for the use of gravity is to fly, as well as making himself lighter to move faster, or parts of himself or weapons to become much heavier for increased damage.

Kai found his health, mana and stamina were visible in the top left of his vision once he closed his system screen, and he could easily pull it up again to make those stats larger, as well as his other statuses.

Kai began to explore outside of his mother and fathers tent more often after turning 2 and getting his ai system.

His parents frequently caught him before he could escape into the busy camp. But not always, as Kai's father is tribe chief, and Kai's mother is tribe healer. So Kai found quite a few opportunities to escape. There wasn't the concept of babysitters in this world, like many things.

You see.. This world isn't nearly as advanced as earth. His people use stone and obsidian daggers, spears, and recurve bow and arrows. The bows are still quite strong, but the range is only about 100 meters.

It meant no toilet paper. They used a soft grass from along the river instead. There were monsters in the river. Reptiles with long and sharp teeth, which will wait near the edge of the river for elf or beast to drink, and then the beasts attack.

Kai saw his first death in his new life shortly after turning two. He was walking on the edges of the roadway along the river, and saw a boy several years older than him going to the water holding a water bucket. He looked into the dark water, but didn't see anything. He kneeled down, and put the bucket into the water.

In an explosive splash of water erupting, a dark form launched itself out of the river, ignoring the bucket and latching its vicious teeth into both of the boys legs. The beast quickly began rolling, slowly at first then rapidly, and a loud wet suctioning plop was heard as the boys legs were ripped off at the hips.

To his horror, Kai watched as two more of the green algae covered beasts sprang from the water, quickly taking the now desperately screaming boy into their jaws, and death rolling and then swallowing what came popping off. They were about to consume the child's head, when a dozen warriors came sprinting forward, riding on their tiger looking mounts, wielding long spears. The beasts casually swallowed another few pounds of flesh, before sliding themselves back into the water; leaving behind the dead boys head, along with various small bits and pieces.

The warriors came to a stop near the edge of the waterline, with their tiger mounts looking into the water fiercely, and the warriors trying to find a shot to throw their spear in after the beasts.

"Kai! What are you doing near the river child!" Came a worried voice. Kai turned 180 degrees, and saw his mother rushing towards him. She picked him up quickly, looking past him while holding him.

Her eyes saw the warriors picking up the young boys head, as well as seeing the left over pieces and blood.

Kai hugged his mom tightly, and said "I was just walking past camp, not going towards the water momma. I.. I uh. I saw that boy get killed mom. He got ripped apart by those river monsters in seconds. It was horrible."

After saying that, he burrowed his head into her shoulder. She squeezed him tightly, and walked back to their tent.

Along the way, she spoke to a warrior who was walking by. "Falas. Go and find my husband please, and tell him that our child has seen the rivers monster work on a child 2 years his senior."

Falas saluted my mother sharply, and said "of course, healer."

He looked towards the still visible river, and rushed off without asking Kai's mom where his father was.

Mom made her way to the tent, sitting down cross legged on a pile of furs, waiting for Kai's father, while rubbing Kai's back in circles, and massaging the back of his neck and head, saying she loves him and singing a humming song softly. "Hmm hmmmm hmm mm. Hmm mmh hmmmh hmm."
