Chapter 3 - Father Son talk

Within a few minutes, his father came rushing in. He asked Kai's mother if the boy had been hurt.

She said "no, not physically." She rubbed her sons back, and said "how are you feeling Kai?"

He lifted his head up, and said "it feels bad seeing a boy bigger than myself dying, and those monsters were so fast and scary."

His father crouched down til he was sitting on his ankles, and looked at Kai. He said "Son, please listen as best you can. There are many dangers in our world. There are monsters in the rivers, in the soil in some spots, plants and fungus that can kill you. Diseases sent by the hidden gods or demons or some other evil, that take out much of our tribe when they come. Terrible beasts on land, in the air, and from the river depths. It's okay to be afraid. Everyone feels fear. Sometimes it will tell you that there are no other ways but to run, and during those times you must pay attention to it. Any fool can say you should just bravely charge into any situation to show courage, but they are wrong.

Your family and our people will rely on you to keep them safe. If we have to run from an enemy stronger than us, we do. Usually that will still mean many of us get caught, and eaten.

There isn't a way to beat all monsters or hide all of us from the strongest enemies, in order to save all of our people. That's why we have our minds. To think. Sometimes we can lay traps, or slow them down. You can sometimes lure one monster into a stronger creatures territory, but that also risks having both of them chase you, and then battle over you.

That may save your life and your people, or surely end it depending on the wiseness of your decision. Or perhaps you never run into the monster because it's sleeping and exhaust yourself, allowing a monster to kill you.

You should only fight an enemy when it has a life or death reason, and you are certain of victory, or else have no other choice. The tiger doesn't attack the strongest bull in a herd, but finds its young, or weak and old. I have seen tigers struck in the face and killed by old wily bulls that have the experience to combat their weakness, as well as young calf's doing the same.

If you remember nothing else from this talk. Remember this. Never underestimate anything in life. If you meet anyone and your advisors and friends all think that defeating them will be easy, think again.

A frail old woman can slip past your finely honed defenses and slit your throat, or stab you in the back. She can poison your food, or do any number of other things. Our people have magic, and are strong, but it doesn't mean we are invincible."

Kai nodded slowly, digesting the information given to him by his dad. He got up from his moms arms, and gave his dad a warm hug.

Looking into his dads brown eyes, Kai said "I think I understand dad. I will try my best to live with wisdom, and courage when it's necessary father."

A wet sparkle of light lit in his fathers eyes, and he said "great. Do you know what the magic I was talking about is? Have you felt it within you?"

Kai smiled, saying "yeah I have magic."

His dad smiled weakly, while looking at Kai's mother. It was quite unusual to awaken magic so young.

The mother said in a calm alarm voice "what power do you have Kai? It is normal to have one power, like being able to create a fire, or produce water from the air or call it from the ground. There is the power of wind, and of the storm blast like during the storms when the big booms are heard, and that of weight."

Kai smiled innocently and said "oh. Well, I have all of those."

The parents eyes widened, their jaws dropped in shock. After a moment they closed their mouths, and Kai's father said hoarsely "can you use them and show us son?"

Kais face was stuck in thought. He moved his right hand to his chin, thinking hard for a bit of time.

After a few seconds, he said "sure dad, but my mana isn't very high at the moment."

His dad said "that's fine son, it will get stronger as you gain life experience. Your ability is very rare. There are none in our tribe, and none in my fathers generation, but there was one in my grandfathers age."

Kai said "wow! It's really that rare?. Ok well I will show you them."

He put his hand onto a part of the ground not covered by furs with his palm flat against the earth, and then began using his ability fundamental forces.

He drew out pure carbon from the elements in the ground, as well as using some boron, with low nitrogen present while compressing them all together with immense pressure, to make a blue diamond of incredibly vivid color and quality. When the blue diamond surfaced from the ground, it pushed the earth up with it. It caught rays of light, sparkling all around the tent beautifully.

The diamond had formed under Kai's will, into a beautiful gem cut shape, able to be held in a man's fist, or worn on a necklace. Far too big for a rings gem, even for ceremonial use only. In his earths grade, it would have been perfect and flawless.

Kai's father gasped. He said "how did you do that?Did you find that hidden in the ground?"

Kai said "no. I created it using all of the magic types, separating things called elements in the earth, and then using pressure, electricity, and pressurizing them with enormous pressure, forming it how it looks now."

His dad said "wow that's amazing. Can I hold it?"

Kai handed it to his father without worrying about anything. They looked at it in awe, and his mom said "did that use all of your magic up Kai?"

Kai said "no, it only used up 1/3. Do you want me to make more gems?"

Kai's father said "yes, but not a ton. It will help your powers grow by using your power, and it will help us. Our tribe sends trade caravans to the south; to a kingdom with these permanent homes made of wood, or rock, or mud and grass."

Kai said "ok great." Putting his palm back down, he focused his mind. He used different methods for the next two diamonds. Higher Hydrogen in the carbon with no boron; to create a beautiful violet diamond opal.

After handing it to his mother who gazed at it in fascination, Kai moved his hand back down. Using higher nitrogen now, He made a brilliant orange diamond.

The blue diamond, violet diamond, and orange diamond were truely stunning in beauty.

Kai's father put them in 3 separate soft leather pouches, sealing them shut. He left the tent soon after. He gave the pouch to rhe only tradesman of the black elf.

He took it to the caravan merchant Codi, asking him to sell them to a gem dealer in the Human city of Rakanshi.

Within a day the merchant set out, riding his aged tiger mount, and guiding several cattle laden with cured leather, and a few other crafts that Kai's people were able to make from the grasses, animal bones, fat, etc.

Quite a few obsidian daggers with thick leather handles wrapped around them expertly, as well as both obsidian arrow tips, and complete arrows.

The arrow feathers were made of feathers that fall naturally or from birds after being killed for meat. We didn't have any domesticated feather birds like my earths geese or turkey, although we have a bigger version of the geese which I have seen.

Kai watched as the merchants small caravan vanished into the distance.

Kai couldn't have dreamed of the result his 3 gems would have on his new world. For him. For his people. For Rakanshi, and beyond.

His father asked to make more gems in the future, but Kai would say he wanted to see what happened from selling the first 3 before making more. He didn't want to trigger a diamond rush with people migrating in overwhelming numbers.. although he didn't know it was far too late for that sort of situation with just the 3.
