LEIGHTON IS THE TARGET

"I don't know anything! Do whatever you want! This is illegal! I will sue all of you!" The man roared.

However, a few rounds of torture later, he changed his tune completely.

They caught the man, who was responsible for drugging Ranon and Hazel that night. Before that strange night, because of the meeting he had with Dylan Rose and a few investors that morning, Ranon decided to stay in the hotel for a whole day. Dylan was also aware of this.

And, apparently, he called his sister to come over and shoved her to Ranon. He planned to catch both of them in the act, but the protection around his room was watertight, he could find no way to capture a picture of the two of them together.

Since his first plan didn't work, he intended to capture his sister when she left Ranon's bedroom, but Hazel had never left the room, while none of his men around the hotel saw his sister either.

Dylan Rose.

That man was more ambitious than his father, Grayson Rose. He wanted a cooperation with Ranon, but their proposal was not interesting enough to catch Ranon's eye. Therefore, he resorted to this dirty trick. It was not uncommon in the business world for people to do anything to reach their goal.

"That's it! That's all I know!" The man vomited blood, he looked so awful.

Ranon walked toward the man and pulled down his collar to see a daisy tattoo on his left shoulder. "Lozen family."

"Lozen?" Ares raised his brows. "You mean, the Lozen family as in the one that runs the underground business, gathering information and taking orders to get rid of targets?"

"They are quite infamous in their line of business."

The daisy tattoo on the left shoulder was their trademark, almost all of them had it. Ranon just learned this information as well, because that organization was very secretive.

"Yes, I heard that their assassin managed to kill Torry Mcbuorne, an important political figure during the previous election period, and surprisingly, she was the first daughter of the family." Lucian remembered this piece of information. "Even so, no one has ever seen this woman's face. I bet she must be ugly."

Ares rolled his eyes for the additional opinion in his last statement.

"I am not sure, but from what I heard, there is an internal conflict within the family, because they canceled their last order and it caused them some trouble." Lucian touched his chin.

"Where did you learn about that?" Ares furrowed his brows. Lucian was always more knowledgeable than him.

Lucian grinned. "There is a lot of interesting news that's been circulating around in the Black Diamond, you should visit the place sometime."

"No, thanks." Ares outright refused that. "You should break that bad habit, or else, you will get into trouble some day and Ranon will not be able to get your ass out of there."

"There is no way Ranon will abandon me. He will be able to get my ass out of anywhere!" Lucian said playfully.

Black Diamond was a famous underground gambling place, where you could meet many interesting figures. You would be surprised to see someone who usually portrayed himself as pure as a saint in the public go there to get their vile needs met.

"Hey! Hey! I am just joking!" Lucian raised both of his hands when Ranon snatched the gun from the table and pointed it at him. "Wait! Wait!"

A muffled gunshot echoed through the walls and the smell of gunpowder filled the room.

Ranon pointed his gun at Lucian, but his aim was the man behind him. Still, it was a close call for Lucian because he actually felt the bullet whizz right past his cheek.

Lucian then turned around and saw the man, whom they had tortured until he opened his mouth, now had a hole in his head.

"Clean that up." Ranon dropped the gun.

"I thought you were going to let him go." Ares grimaced to see the mess. "But, I guess not." He shrugged his shoulders and patted Lucian's shoulder to snap him back to reality.

"I thought he was going to kill me."

"I think he changed his mind at the last second," Ares replied mercilessly, which made Lucian speechless.

===================================

River still managed to access her family's information and learned that her father had canceled the last order. Their customer was not happy about this and this was the first time in history that they canceled an order.

River smirked to read that.

"Now you know my value, huh?" River crossed her arms and leaned back, staring at her laptop screen. She could imagine what kind of uproar that was happening within the family.

Her father wouldn't be happy about this, but then she wondered whether her father had learned what Aubrey and Arlo had done to her.

"Maybe he doesn't know?" River raised her brows, trying to speculate the possibility. "If father knew that I would be killed, he wouldn't have accepted the order only to ruin it later."

In that sense, Aubrey and Arlo worked behind their father's back, behind her back to get rid of her.

"I wonder, who is the target?" River typed something and it took her a few seconds to get the name of the target. Her brows furrowed, she was surprised.

Her father had told her that there was a big assignment for her to be prepared, because it was a critical matter and their client wanted clean work.

However, River was yet to learn her target's name, because it would take place a year from now. You could imagine how important this was for them to start preparing a year ahead.

"Leighton?" River tilted her head. There was only the target family's name, but not their first name. "Which Leighton?"

But suddenly, the information was wiped out and River was on alert, her fingers flew across the keyboard to erase her footprints, so the other person wouldn't be able to track her back.
