On the silent day, two people looked at each other. The young girl chose to break the silence first.
"How long do you intend to keep staring?" she said with her cheeks blushed.
Bai Ming immediately realized he had been too caught up in the situation and said, "Big sister is thinking too much. The sunlight stunned me for a moment, but now it's okay..."
He was just about to ask her how she was feeling this morning but when the girl heard this she stepped closer interrupting him then lowered her head a bit and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. Bai Ming had to stare up at her. After all, she was a bit taller than him.
"Oh really, by the way, why are you only calling me big sister?"
She had whispered slowly, but every word had travelled to Bai Ming exactly as she intended.
Bai Ming, the whole person was turning red, and seeing that she had even leaned closer than before, he could now smell her scent and felt her breath, making his mind spin a bit.
"What a nice scent," he thought to himself.
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say he could now feel the entirety of the universe.
"Could it be that you've also forgotten my name?" she continued as she seemed to find his confusion funny. Seeing how the situation was developing, Bai Ming snapped out of his stupor and stepped away a bit.
"B-big sister Mei is thinking too much," he said after composing himself.
Feeling that if this keeps up, he wouldn't be able to leave here, Bai Ming chose not to give her any chance to talk and simply ignored her, then dashed in the opposite way. The way he was running, no one would catch up to him. After all, he had always been good at fleeing.
Li Mei was left with a perplexed expression, but it didn't last longer and was replaced by a charming smile once more. At this point, her eyes seemed to have turned into the shape of crescent moons.
A dazed expression appeared on her face as she smiled and whispered in her heart.
"Our fates are different, but I hope the Great Immortal may shower you with good fortune in the days to come,"
It seemed to her this would be her last encounter with Bai Ming and wanted to make it memorable, but the little guy had run off without giving her any chance.
Just as she was also about to walk away at this moment, she glanced behind as she heard some slow, steady footsteps approaching her. In her sight appeared two people. It was two girls who looked exactly the same. they seemed to be of the same age as her.
"Big sister, the sun has just risen, but you're already toying with that little brother," one of the girls, Qing Yue, said, looking in the direction Bai Ming had run off to.
"How can a little bumpkin like you understand his worth?" Li Mei snorted.
Hearing this, Qing Yue's face turned ugly. Although she wasn't from a much better family than Li Mei, she still didn't think Li Mei was that much better than herself.
Qing Yue tilted, puffed her cheeks, looking the other way as if this didn't concern her anymore.
"Hmph, what's so good about him anyway? I don't see it. "
"That's exactly point," Li Mei retorted.
"You…" Qing Yue's face was turning even more stranger than before from the anger bottling up inside her.
It was at this moment that the other girl, Qing Luo, intervened.
"Sister, you shouldn't think too much about it, and let's respect Big sister Mei's decision. There must be a reason why she's so engrossed in this little play. "
Li Mei immediately turned her attention to Qing Luo, who had not spoken till now.
In fact, in her eyes among the two, she didn't have any reasons to be wary of Qing Yue, but it was different for Qing Luo.
Li Mei felt annoyed, looking at the calm smile on her face. In terms of figure and appearance, Li Mei is far ahead, but that didn't mean Qing Luo was so bad. She was, in fact, quite beautiful, but only when compared to Li Mei would she look no different from Qing Yue.
There was a tight deadlock for what seemed to be instant, but for the two girls, it seemed multiple clashes had already been thrown. Invisible daggers and insults seemed to have been launched in that moment. Having been experienced in this sort of head-to-head staring contest, Li Mei didn't want to extend this clash for longer and spoke.
"I haven't seen little sister Luo in a while, but it seems you're becoming much like a family head; uncle Qing must be proud,"
Hearing this, Qing Luo simply returned a smile as she responded.
"Big sister praises me too much; this little girl was just fortunate,"
"It's a bit of a shame though i'm quite busy at the moment and will have to take my leave but this big sister can leave you some words of advice" Li Mei added not wanting to linger longer as she turned her back to the two before walking away.
Seeing the arrogance from Li Mei, Qing Yue felt even more frustrated, but Qing Luo remained with her usual smile, looking at Li Mei's back, waiting for the advice.
As Li Mei started walking, her voice slowly floated in their ears.
"Stupidity is contagious."
Hearing this, the meaning behind these words was quite obvious as it carved a deep path into Qing Yue. Her face contorted as she seemed ready to explode any moment, but without surprise, the volcano that seemed ready to erupt had suddenly calmed. It wasn't as if she had grown accustomed to this, but a glare from Qing Luo had stopped her from doing anything she wanted.
It seemed that even though they were both sisters, Qing Luo was the only one who had the ability to use her head and wasn't swayed by her emotions.
The two looked ahead and watched as Li Mei got further away from them. It was only when her figure couldn't be seen completely when Qing Yue turned to her sister with a load of insults directed at Li Mei, who had already left.
"Sister, how long are we going to bear her arrogance?"
"As long as it takes," Qing Luo replied calmly, seemingly appearing unfazed.
"That bitch thinks she's better than us" she said as her chest heaved up and down violently from anger. Her feet stamped at the ground violently as if the one she was stamping was Li Mei.
Hearing this Qing Luo snorted in her heart, as she glanced at her sister with the corner of her eyes thinking to herself that, "It's only you who she regards as lesser and you're proving her words to be correct by this little tantrum you're throwing"
It seemed even Qing Luo was aware of this short coming of her sister. This wasn't a surprise, there was always something different about twins. Not everything would be identical and it seemed for the two it was their personalities and reasoning capacity.
Qing Luo had already become familiar with this sort of thing then tilted her head down and quietly waited.
Qing Yue kept hurling venomous words, it didn't seem like she would stop. It was only after some time that she calmed down a bit when Qing Luo lifted her head and spoke.
"Soon, it will be time"
After hearing this Qing Yue smiled, at this moment her appearance seemed just as appealing as her sister as she put her hand on her chest.
Whatever the meaning behind these words were, was definitely nothing good.
In a short while these two also left, however no one noticed that in a certain corner of the shadows someone had witnessed this little exchange. The anonymous person looked around and watched as the two girls leave then quietly left the area. At this moment there was no one on the scene and even though it was morning the clouds were already shifting indicating that there was something brewing in the shadows but no one would know of this until the time comes when fates would intertwine and change.
Meanwhile, in a certain part of the village near the river Bai Ming was gasping for air from exhaustion after running for so long without looking back. He looked behind him and saw no one was following him, at first, he heaved a sigh of relief but suddenly felt strange as he asked himself.
"Was I running that fast?"
Although he knew he had run a long way from her he didn't think he was that fast that she wouldn't be able to catch up after all, he did enjoy the time he spent together with her.
She had always been there for him since they were kids so he didn't resent her.
The truth was in previous times when he encountered Li Mei each time he ran, she would also chase after him. Many of the villagers had already become accustomed to this little play but this time she had not done that.
Seeing that she had not followed, he didn't think too much about this and shoved this idea to the back of his mind not wanting to think more on it. Little did he know that this day would be the last day he would see her.
Such was fate.
