We do not remember days we remember moments

Outside the village, a woman who looked to be in her mid-thirties was soaking some clothes in a container near a river. She would often stop and stand in a daze, looking at the bridge on the river. In her memory, this was the place she had met the man who changed her life. At this moment, she had stopped whilst holding a cloth in her hand as she recalled those unforgettable words the man had said to her.

"I'm truly surprised that in this small continent, there's such a mean person like you," the man said with a look that didn't show any anger but curiosity.

"I'm not being mean; I'm just stating the obvious," the younger version of the woman said.

"You…" the man seemed to have no words to say.

"I can tell that you're from a rich family, raised on a silver spoon," the girl continued

"…"

The young girl looked him up and down. That majesty and boldness didn't mean anything to her. If anyone were to see this scene, they would probably laugh themselves to death. The young girl sized up the man who looked to be twice her size and taller than her and threw spiteful words;-

"It's just plain, you don't know general courtesy, and most of all, you don't know how to talk to a lady. Whose son, are you?" the girl continued.

"…" the man's lips, which seemed to have been forming a smile earlier, twitched a bit after hearing this.

It seemed he was doing his best to maintain that appearance.

The woman near the river had a faint smile on her face. Most women from the village knew that she would often come here just to stare at the bridge. Many had made guesses that this was the place where she had met her lover. Others thought she was waiting for someone dear to return to this place. In a way, they were both right and wrong.

It's just that the woman knew for a fact that the man would not return, but she still waited, hoping that one day she would see that familiar face once more.

Subconsciously, she put her hand to hold something hanging around her neck.

There was a wooden coin that looked just the same as the one the man in her memory had.

At this moment near the river, Bai Ming arrived and saw her mother standing there seemingly daydreaming, but he knew just as the women in the village knew that she was probably reminiscing about her husband. She had never told him anything informative about his father, except that he was a strong and annoying man.

Since he was a child, he had always been curious whether the person his mother was waiting for was his birth father. He had hoped that one day she would give him all the answers, but to this day, no answer had come.

Although he felt indignant about it. He didn't show it on his face and always kept a smile hanging on his face. At this moment, Bai Ming's mother snapped out of her daze. She instinctively felt as if there was another pair of eyes staring at her and turned around to look at her son. The faint smile she had when she was in that daze was still there. Everything seemed natural. If anyone else saw this, they wouldn't think much of it.

There was a brief moment of silence before she spoke first.

"Ming'er haven't I told you its impolite to stare at a lady like that"

This time, Bai Ming truly felt like it had been pointless to run from Li Mei if he was just going to be met with this kind of talk.

At this point, Bai Ming had not provided a response, which made his mother think he had not heard her.

Of course, this didn't mean he had not heard anything, but every word she said had been passed to him. He just had not processed it as he normally would. Bai Ming seemed to have also been sucked into his own daze as he started to recall his childhood and the many questions in his mind.

At this moment, his mother had not yet picked up on his current state, and she added;

"In that regard, you take after him too much,"

Now, she held her silence for a moment as she recalled how she had single-handedly raised Bai Ming. She seemed to be using someone else's character as a reference in all her efforts.

"I had always worried that you'd turn out just like him, but it seems all my efforts were wasted. You truly are his son. "

The longing in Bai Ming's eyes was now plain to see. The mask he had been wearing had been stripped off neatly by her words. His mother could naturally see this, but at this moment, she suddenly fell silent and looked at Bai Ming with shaky eyes. This would be shocking if someone else were to see the shift in her emotions.

"Did you have another nightmare?"

Bai Ming showed a broken smile, which almost seemed like a silent cry. His mother had a very clear idea what exactly he was thinking, but she didn't want to say anything about it and just diverted the topic.

It appeared there was no secret between the mother and son. Even without talking, the two could read each other's emotions. Bai Ming put on a wry smile as he recalled what he dreamt this morning. In fact, this wasn't the first time he's had dreams like this.

Sometimes, he appeared in a wasteland full of bones and corpses. , he appeared in the heat of a raging battle, swords, and various types of projectiles being launched in the skies.

In fact, his mother had made speculations of these dreams, but even when she came to a conclusion, nothing made sense.

She had even moved to other villages looking for spiritualists to get some answers, but all she got was some traditional concotions that didn't prove useful.

Eventually, she had given up on her search, but the day she decided to return to her village, she encountered a young girl who looked to be only six years old. The girl was being held by her mother as they moved past her but it was only during that instant she stood side by side that all of a sudden the world seemed to have slowed down and the girl looked at her.

"MAY THE STARLIGHT GUIDE YOU TO THE SANCTUARY"

She had not realized it, but something had been imprinted in her mind. She stood in the middle of the street with a blank look on her face. It was only when someone bumped into her that she came back to reality but when she looked around she couldn't find the girl or the mother anymore, It had only appeared like a dream for a second. Others would disregard this feeling, but she didn't as a word appeared in her mind.....Immortal.

In some respects, some believed the existence of immortals as deities, and some did not.

For someone in the mortal world who had not even left the borders of the continent it seemed ridiculously far fetched to even imagine this as something real but because of the interaction she had with that man on the bridge she became surer about this. However, she did not tell anyone of this, not even her son.

At this moment, she suddenly remembered that today Bai Ming was now sixteen years old. She had prepared a lot for this day.

She made a beckoning motion with her hand towards Bai Ming. Bai Ming didn't delay and came over to stand beside his mother. When they stood like this, it would be clear to see they were the same height, but when her mother turned her head over, she seemed to have the idea that Bai Ming was taller than her.

She then turned her head back to look at the bridge again. Bai Ming had been staring at the bridge all this time. It was all he could see.

"Ming'er this is where I met your father," she said as she pointed to the bridge.

Bai Ming's eyes opened like saucers as he instinctively turned his head to look at his mother. However, all he saw was a side view of her face as she smiled. She didn't turn to look at him as she added further.

"I know you have always wanted to hear about your father,"

"No…" Bai Ming said.

A soft chuckle escaped his mother's mouth as she found Bai Ming's response funny. She then turned her eyes, glancing at him from the corner of her eyes.

"Hehe, so you've learnt how to lie, huh?"

"…"

"I suppose I have Mei'er to thank for that,"

When Bai Ming heard this, his face went red and jumped hysterically.

"M-mother w-what are you talking about, there's nothing…"

"Yes-yes, I know," she said as her eyes glanced at a tree nearby.

It didn't seem there was anything there, not even Bai Ming noticed all this. Time passed, and Bai Ming and his mother stood there for quite a while looking at the river. It was then that with great determination, his mother spoke once more.

"When you come back from the hunt this evening, I will tell you all you want to know, including who your father is and where he went."

She said so as she looked over to Bai Ming, then stretched her hands to him and leaned over to him to kiss on his forehead softly.

At this point, Bai Ming's body stiffened. He didn't know whether to be excited or not, but his face betrayed him as a hint of anticipation could be seen.

This time, he didn't say much. He neither agreed nor disagreed.

"Okay, I'll see you at home this evening," Bai Ming said.

He quickly stood up and returned to the village.

Bai Ming's mother remained motionless as she stood there for a moment, watching her son's back fading in the far distance. She then remembered that at some point in her life, she had seen such a familiar scene. It was the day when that man left her to take care of the child alone, saying he was going to get some milk, but she didn't want to think about this at this moment.

If it were any other time, she would indulge in these memories, but now she turned to look at a certain tree in the forest. At a glance, this tree didn't look special, and no one would notice a blue fabric protruding from the bottom.

"Dear, how long do you plan on hiding there?" Bai Ming's mother said.

Seeing that she had been seen through, a young girl appeared from behind the tree wearing a blue dress. She looked very beautiful and enchanting. Any man would be tempted, but taking a closer look, anyone who had seen Li Mei would find that she looked exactly like Li Mei. The only difference was that she didn't seem like the temptress that was Li Mei. In fact, she always appeared like a lone frail flower, which could be blown by the wind at any moment.

"A-uhm, s-sorry for intruding," the young girl said as she bowed her head.

"No, don't be…" Bai Ming's mother held her silence for a bit, wondering what would be the right thing to say to her.

"Meng'er, I assume you came to see my son? You just missed him, " she said, pointing in the direction Bai Ming had left.

Li Meng seemed perplexed for a moment, then suddenly understood the meaning.

"Ah yes, thanks for your guidance," she said, bowing her head once more and leaving in the same direction Bai Ming had.

Bai Ming's mother looked at her back fading in the distance. Soon, no one could be seen, and only she remained here.

She thought to herself the difference between Li Mei and Li Meng. Despite being twins, one appears fickle, and the other appears emboldened. Thinking about how both seemed to always be in her son's ear, a wry smile appeared on her face as she wondered which one Bai Ming would choose but it would be too much of a headache to think about so she pushed the thought aside and turned to a rock nearby to finish washing the clothes she had brought here.
