Strange voice

Bai Ming stood ahead with a dazed look on his face. He did not even register the things that were happening in his surroundings.

The others who came after him had their attention on Mu Bai, who was convulsing even more. This shocked the group. They did not even have the chance to survey their surroundings for anything that could be useful to resolve this poison as discussed.

At this moment, Mu Bai, who had been sleeping the entire way, had his wide eyes open. They were completely reddened, and no white was visible. The tears had been replaced by black blood. Looking at these eyes, one could only imagine the pain he was going through.

The pain had jolted him back to see the reality one last time. There were many new faces he could not register, but at this moment, he could only focus on the big brother he knew. Although Si Niang was happy to see this brother of his finally open his eyes, he could not help but feel a stinging pain in his heart. His eyes reddened, seeing Mu Bai struggling to focus on him.

Chi Huo took out a few herbs from the bag on his waist.

"Hold on for a moment, I can make another medicine"

The situation demanded a solution and Chi Huo was incapable of such a task, at most he could only make out a temporarily solution but even now he was not very confident if this remedy would ease Mu Bai's suffering.

He knew that compared to the medicine he had given Si Niang before, the one he was making now would be inferior, but there was only one aspect it was superior, and that was numbing pain.

In no time, at all, he had finished preparing the medicine and used a wooden bowl to pour it into Mu Bai's opened mouth.

Mu Bai drank the medicine slowly, and in a few moments, the bowl was empty. Putting the bowl back into the bag, Chi Huo looked on with an expressionless face.

Time slowly passed. A minute or two perhaps, but there was no change at all. On the outside, his condition seemed to worsen, but Si Niang kept a hopeful expression on his face. He could not afford to show a helpless look in front of this brother.

Meanwhile, for Mu Bai, he felt his senses being numbed a bit. He could no longer feel some of the pain he felt.

He could finally divert some of his mind from the pain. Although he was very glad to see this big brother he never thought he could see again, he felt the urgent need to warn him.

With this thought in mind, he willed some strength to lift a hand towards Si Niang and speak. Si Niang seeing Mu Bai's dry, crusty lips open was ecstatic.

He had previously thought that he would not be able to wake up at all, but now it seemed all the groups efforts to save him had not been in vain. Even Li Tian, Chi Huo, and Wu Zhengyi seemed to see their efforts bear fruit.

However, such a moment was short-lived.

It was at this moment that Mu Bai let out a roar as if he were a beast that had been wounded. Along with the pain that had disappeared, an intense burning sensation appeared without warning. His face contorted many times as he tried to resist it, but he could not resist it.

It felt as if someone had ignited a fire in his blood. Si Niang's hand that had been supporting Mu Bai neck started to feel sticky. Looking over, Si Niang saw Mu Bai's skin slowly liquefy.

The eyes that had been struggling to look at him slowly lost focus. The body that had been twitching constantly slowed as if its power source had been cut off. The hand that had been trying to reach for Si Niang also lost its power source and dropped.

Si Niang tried to grab hold of this arm, but the only thing that he managed to grab hold of were bones. The skin and flesh passed through his arm like sand.

Chi Huo's eyes widened like saucers. He could not believe what he was seeing right now. He had never heard of a poison this dreadful in his entire life.

Everyone stood rooted in their spots without making a move or sound. Zi Yan instantly felt deep regret.

He should never have had ideas about secretly following behind this group. Had he known there was such a danger, he would never have done such a thing. The sight in front of him was equally shocking to him, just as it was for the rest.

Chi Huo was the same. He wondered what kind of malevolent spirit had deceived him into thinking there would be gains in this excursion. Ever since he joined, he has had his thoughts slowly corrected, but nowhere was feeling even greater fear than ever before.

Others did not know, but he did not speak of it, afraid that the group might freak out. Si Niang knelt in front of the deceased Mu Bai. His eyes looked the figure that once was Mu Bai. The meat paste in front of him had quickly rotted, giving off a pungent smell of rotting flesh.

It was at this moment that Bai Ming, who was in a daze, returned to reality. Shocked, he quickly turned in all directions but could not find anything.

What met his eyes was a fairly dark spacious passage. There were no windows, but he could see a faint blue light, which was ever-present in this place, the moonlight.

On both sides of this passage were many large pillars that held up the ceiling. He turned back only to see the rest of the group standing just behind him. Some of their expressions showed a mixture of shock, fear, and pity.

Looking around, he felt as though the groups numbers did not seem to add up. There was one person missing. Looking over closely, he finally realised what was missing.

It was Mu Bai.
