Chapter 182: If Found Out, They Will Die

Chapter 182: If Found Out, They Will Die

Seeing the bullet the man took out, Wu Heng didn't show any signs of surprise.

At the time, 'Hunter One' had fired multiple sniper shots at the enemy from a distance, not all of which had hit the target.

The skeletons were ordered to search the scene for the bullets.

However, some were lost in the grass or buried in the ground and walls, making them hard to retrieve in a short time.

The Iron Guard Knights searching the area during the day and finding the bullets wasn't surprising.

"You think I killed him?" Wu Heng said.

"We're just asking questions, Captain Wu Heng. Why are you so defensive?" The younger knight stepped forward and asked.

Wu Heng waved his hand and said, "Which of your eyes saw me being defensive?"

The young knight froze, his face growing darker.

The older commander signaled for the young knight to calm down and said, "Captain Wu Heng, please explain this bullet and why it was found at 'Gianluan's' residence."

The commander brought the conversation back to the bullet.

Wu Heng shook his head. "It's not mine."

"How can you prove it's not yours?"

"This is a weapon similar to a heavy crossbow. I have one, and others can get them too. Besides, ours are different." Wu Heng opened his handgun, took out a bullet, and placed it on the table.

The other side had only the bullet head, but the differences were still apparent.

The type and size were clearly different.

The commander compared them for a moment and said, "We need to take this device for verification."

"Our guild has rules that members' equipment and items are personal property and cannot be confiscated in any form. Of course, I'm willing to cooperate with your investigation. Let the steward send an application to the headquarters. Once approved, I'll hand over the weapon to you." Wu Heng put the bullet back into the magazine.

Steward Gomez glanced at him and added, "Wu Heng has just joined the guild. There's no reason for him to have such deep hatred with someone. You should investigate other suspects."

"Do you know 'Gianluan'?" the commander persisted.

"I did meet him once. He wanted to buy an item from me, but we couldn't agree on a price," Wu Heng replied.

"And after that?"

"I haven't seen him since. If we had any conflict, I would've gone to the guild to resolve it immediately. There's no need for things to escalate this far." Wu Heng explained his reasoning.

The two knights didn't ask any more questions, simply jotting down notes.

"Thank you for your time, Steward Gomez. We'll take our leave now." They saluted Gomez and then turned to Wu Heng, saying, "Mr. Wu Heng, please don't leave the city until the investigation is complete."

"That's not guaranteed. If I have a mission, I'll still have to lead my team out," Wu Heng responded.

With no way to pressure him, the knights left.

Once only Wu Heng and Gomez were left in the office.

Gomez asked, "Do you have issues with the knights?"

Wu Heng knew his attitude had been defensive, so he answered directly, "Steward, last night, some masked men tried to rob my house. The knights stood by and watched. Now, with a wealthy merchant dead, they're acting like it's a big deal. It just pisses me off."

"Something like that happened?" Gomez's frown deepened. "Was it the same people who tried to assassinate you last time?"

"Not sure, but it's likely related."

"I'll arrange for some people to keep an eye on your place," the steward said.

Wu Heng shook his head, "I've made some arrangements myself. If any danger arises, I'll report it to you."

"Alright, just be careful and try to avoid conflict with the knights. They represent the city lord's office, and it's best to maintain appearances."

"Understood, Steward."

Wu Heng said, turning to leave.

......

The two knights left the guild.

The younger member hesitated and said, "Commander, he was clearly defensive when answering. He's highly suspicious."

The older commander nodded and said, "Perhaps, but without solid evidence, we can't do anything to him."

"So we're just letting him go?"

"Leave it to the city lord. We'll just do our part," the commander replied.

Gianluan's mansion now looked like a haunted house.

Blood and signs of battle were everywhere, but the bodies and furniture had all vanished without a trace.

This wasn't something an ordinary person could do.

It was just for show.

No one really wanted to dig deeper.

Anyone who finds the killer won't live to see tomorrow.

......

Wu Heng left the office, keeping his expression controlled.

Just in case there were hidden methods being used to observe his every move.

Gianluan was dead, but it didn't seem to cause any major crisis.

At least the guild wasn't getting involved, and the Iron Guard Knights of Rentam City were only conducting routine investigations.

It hadn't escalated to the point where Rentam City was ready to break ties with him.

That was a good thing.

Hopefully, things would calm down and life could return to normal.

Of course, with Gianluan dead, the Secret Cult and that fat man still knew about his plan.

Wu Heng had to be cautious. If they came forward with evidence or made any bold moves.

He needed to be prepared.

When he returned to the rest area, Duke was already sitting on the couch, eating.

Seeing Wu Heng enter, Duke immediately put on a look of someone discovering a big secret and said, "Captain, there was a murder in the inner district! Everyone's talking about it. Do you think if we catch the killer, we'll get a reward?"

Wu Heng nearly lost his temper and said, "There's no bounty. Why would we catch him? That's the Iron Guard Knights' job. We've got enough enemies as it is. Let's not stir up more trouble."

"Oh, you're right." Duke sat back down and added, "Captain, Glask asked me to let you know that the new batch of armor is ready. When someone's home, they can send it over to you."

Glask was the owner of the Mao Liao Armor Shop.

Duke mentioned him so often that Wu Heng remembered the name.

"Alright, let's go take a look."

"Sure!"

The two of them got up and headed out.

......

The outer district was a bit chaotic.

Along the way, gangs moved in groups.

Everyone looked alert, as if danger could strike at any moment.

Wu Heng and Duke made their way to the Mao Liao Armor Shop.

Inside the shop, a few orcs had been added, seemingly to guard the place.

Seeing Wu Heng enter, the orc owner immediately smiled, "Captain! We've just received some beast milk, very good for the body. Take some with you to share with your friends."

Orcs weren't as simple-minded as the rumors suggested.

In business, they knew how to be polite.

Wu Heng smiled as he entered the shop and asked, "What's going on in the outer district today? Why does everyone have guards posted outside their shops?"

The owner glanced outside cautiously and lowered his voice, "You haven't heard? Last night, the entire White Wolf Gang was wiped out. Not a single survivor. The whole street is covered in bits of flesh and limbs, and people are still cleaning up. There's a thick layer of dried blood."

So it was because of the White Wolf Gang.

"Isn't gang warfare common? Why so much tension?"

"The White Wolf Gang was a big one with a lot of properties. The gang that wiped them out isn't interested in those assets, but other gangs can't sit still. If no one steps in to mediate, a turf war could break out. We're just being cautious, posting extra guards to avoid trouble," the owner explained.

"Makes sense," Wu Heng nodded.

"Captain, do you want to inspect the goods, or should I have them delivered to your home?" the owner asked.

"Take me to see them."

"Oh, sure!" The owner thought Wu Heng wanted to inspect the goods and kept assuring him of their quality along the way.

In the warehouse.

He pointed to several stacks of leather armor, "These are them. Feel free to inspect them."

Wu Heng nodded and gave them a quick look.

He stored them all in his spatial ring.

The owner was momentarily stunned, then quickly realized he was using a storage device and offered more flattery.

Wu Heng continued, "Do you have any human warrior plate armor? I need something of good quality."

"Of course, Captain. Right this way, I'll show you." The owner led him back to the main shop, introducing the plate armor on the wooden racks.

Full metal coverage, lined with leather.

It looked decent enough.

"How much?"

"For a full set? A full set will cost you 420 silver coins," the owner said.

"Any discounts if I buy more?"

The owner replied, "Captain, whether it's one or more, I'll give you the lowest price—400 silver coins per set."

Wu Heng didn't waste time and said, "I'll take 60 sets."

Pffft!

The owner, who had just taken a sip of water, spat it out in surprise.

"60 sets?"

"What's wrong?" Wu Heng asked.

"Uh, I'll get them ready right away," the owner hurried off, getting his workers to start packing the armor.

Once everything was packed.

Wu Heng stored it all, counted out the corresponding silver coins, and handed them to the owner.

The shop owner's face beamed with joy.

Then, from behind, someone brought out two leather pouches.

The owner said, "Captain, this is beast milk brought back from the tribe. Take it with you and try it. If you like it, I'll have more sent over next time."

"No need, I'm not used to drinking this."

"Just try it. It's good for your health."

After some back-and-forth, Wu Heng accepted the pouches.

He still couldn't get used to orc food and flavors.

After purchasing the items, Wu Heng told Duke to head home first.

He then left the shop himself, heading towards the Spikes Gang's headquarters.

......

Guided by a gang member.

Wu Heng walked straight into the courtyard.

Wen Mansa, dressed in leather armor, had a cold and fierce expression with a hint of killing intent.

"You all, leave us and guard the outside."

"Yes, Sister-in-law!" The gang members immediately left.

Those remaining were Wen Mansa's trusted aides, many of whom had participated in the battle to protect the maid in the inner district the previous day.

Naturally, they could guess what had happened.

Once the courtyard gates were closed.

Wen Mansa dropped her serious demeanor. "Master."

She softly called out and leaned in close.

"You're not hurt, are you?"

"No, but it was a scare," Wen Mansa said as she led him to the side, lifting a straw mat to reveal several corpses. "This one was the White Wolf Gang leader, and the rest are his key members. They're all here."

The corpses were pale, clearly dead for some time.

They were indeed the ones who had tried to intercept Wu Heng.

"Well done."

"Thank you, Master."

Wu Heng cast [Raise Skeleton] on the corpses.

The flesh peeled away, and the bodies stood up.

"These corpses will now follow you and continue running the gang."

Wen Mansa's eyes widened, showing both surprise and delight.
