Chapter 190: The Swordsman and the Rogue
Except for the leader, who is marked as a second-tier merit target.
There are also wanted notices for the core members and squad leaders, with bounties reaching 500 to 800 silver coins, and some even carry third-tier merits.
Seeing this, Wu Heng was somewhat surprised.
In the past, only the leader of a gang would appear on the bounty list.
But now, for the Warhammer Party, from the leader to the core members, even a few squad leaders, all appeared on the wanted list.
They are all ruthless individuals.
I've only been gone for a day, but it feels like much longer.
Surprised, yes.
But after thinking carefully, it seems this isn't necessarily a bad thing for me.
At least, it has largely attracted the attention of the Iron Guard Knights.
Now the enemies are starting to harass the outskirts of the city, leaving them with little energy to investigate the destruction of the 'Gianluan' mansion.
Give it a few more days, and with the level of investigation in this world...
No matter how they look into it, they won't trace it back to me.
After standing in front of the notice board for a while and eavesdropping on a few mercenary group conversations...
Seeing that there was no new or explosive information, he headed down a corridor to the squad's resting room.
He pushed the door open.
Duke was using a linen cloth soaked in flaxseed oil to wipe down his battle axe.
The whole room was filled with the smell of grease.
"Captain!" Duke greeted.
At the same time, seeing the two skeletons behind him, he curiously asked, "Captain, did you change your followers?"
Barson had been left with Li Yanhong.
His new followers were 'Bagdong' and 'Fireblade'.
Fireblade was a human warrior, with a sturdy and broad frame, distinctly different from Barson's physique.
In addition, he was fully armored, with a longsword hanging from his waist.
He was easily recognizable at a glance.
"Yes, this is Fireblade, a warrior," Wu Heng said.
"Oh!" Duke nodded toward the skeletons, as a form of greeting.
Wu Heng entered the room and sat down nearby, casually asking, "What's going on in the city? Everyone's talking about the Warhammer Party?"
"Last night, the Warhammer Party attacked the outer district. A lot of gang members and local residents died. I've heard the outer district is in chaos now, with residents panicking, and some gangs are clashing." Duke replied.
Duke was a native of this city.
He knew some people in the outer district, so he could gather some information.
"What are the Iron Guard Knights saying?"
"The outer district has always been neglected, so far there's been no response. At most, some of the gangs in charge might step in to figure out how to handle the situation. The inner district won't care." Duke continued.
Looks like the Warhammer Party is really tough to deal with.
Last time, the Iron Guard Knights, along with Guild squads and several gangs, only managed to drive them away.
Now they're back, and they caught everyone off guard.
"Hmm," Wu Heng nodded.
He was about to ask about the situation with 'Gianluan'.
Knock knock knock~
There was a knock at the door, and then an Guild staff member poked his head in.
Seeing Wu Heng sitting in the rest room...
He immediately smiled and said, "Captain Wu Heng, the steward has asked you to visit the study."
"Oh, okay!"
The staff member left.
Wu Heng stood up and followed him out.
Steward's study.
Gomez was frowning as he looked at the documents in his hand.
Seeing Wu Heng enter, he motioned for him to sit down and said, "You weren't at this morning's meeting?"
"I was meeting an informant this morning. I'm currently investigating a wanted criminal." Wu Heng casually said.
Squad 12 was gaining some fame within the Guild.
Their specialty was capturing wanted criminals. Even though they hadn't been established for long, they had claimed half of the bounties from the notice board.
Wu Heng mentioned investigating a wanted criminal, and Gomez didn't question it further.
He simply continued, "You've heard about the Warhammer Party, right?"
"Yeah, they attacked the outer residential district, causing some casualties."
"Yes, from now on, all bounty and rescue missions are suspended. All squads must assist in patrolling various areas, strengthening the city's defenses and security," Gomez put down the document and said directly.
Wu Heng frowned, finding this somewhat unexpected, though it made sense.
But from a personal standpoint...
He didn't think it was wise for the Guild to get involved in this mess.
The entire leadership of the Warhammer Party, from the leader to the core members and even the squad leaders, are all on the wanted list.
This means they have no reservations about killing Guild members.
Having squad members involved will drastically increase the danger.
"What about the Iron Guard Knights and the gangs?" Wu Heng asked.
"Their task is more burdensome. We are merely assisting with patrols." Gomez replied.
Since the steward had issued the order, there wasn't much room for negotiation.
However, while executing the task, it was possible to avoid some danger, such as not patrolling or just doing a quick round and calling it a day.
"Steward, which patrol area are we assigned to?" Wu Heng asked.
"The northern outer district. Two patrols per day. If you discover anything unusual, report to me immediately," Gomez said directly.
The outer district, that's fine.
At least it's not the outskirts.
"Steward, there are only three of us now."
"I've already assigned new members to your squad. You'll lead them when they arrive," Gomez continued.
Having gotten to this point...
There was no need to persist any further.
"Alright, understood, steward."
...…
Returning to the rest room.
Duke was still fiddling with his battle axe.
"Captain, do we have a new mission?" Duke asked.
Wu Heng nodded, "Have someone call Marta. The Guild squads have all been assigned tasks. Let's head out quickly and get back early."
"Oh, sure." Duke immediately walked out.
Before long, he returned.
They didn't have to call the members over; there would be staff to handle that.
Knock knock knock~
Wu Heng and Duke chatted for a while in the room.
Then, there was another knock on the door.
"Come in!"
The door opened, and two men entered—one tall, one short.
One was wearing silver armor, with a longsword at his waist; the other was wearing leather armor, with two daggers at his waist and a small quiver of arrows.
A wrist-mounted crossbow could be seen strapped to his arm.
Upon entering the room...
The two of them quickly scanned the room.
The swordsman said, "We are the new members assigned to your squad."
Hearing that new members had arrived, Duke immediately smiled, "Come in, this is our captain, Wu Heng. I'm Duke."
"Hello, Captain. Hello, Duke." The swordsman said seriously.
The rogue smiled as well, "Hello, Captain. Hello, Duke."
The steward had mentioned new members being assigned.
It seemed they had arrived.
And two at once.
"Did you bring your files?" Wu Heng asked.
"Yes."
The two handed over their files, and Wu Heng opened them and glanced through them.
The swordsman was named 'Gaul Bory', 24 years old, a level 6 swordsman from a noble family of the Kingdom of Yeko, previously a reserve member of Squad 3. He had participated in six rescue missions and two operations to capture wanted criminals.
The rogue was named 'Burke', 27 years old, a level 7 rogue, recommended by the City Hall. His file simply noted that he had assisted in the capture of wanted criminals several times.
Wu Heng looked at the files.
Then looked up at the two standing not far away.
Gaul Bory was easier to understand, as he was already a reserve member, and now he was directly assigned to Wu Heng's squad.
But the rogue in front of him... recommended by City Hall.
Could the local City Hall now assign people to the Guild?
Before, there was always a shortage of personnel.
Now suddenly, it's full.
Wu Heng couldn't help but doubt the identities of the two.
