The battle became more fierce, blood staining every part of the black walls of the fortress. Bodies dropped from the top of the towers and into a pit of thorns and iron rods.
The air was mixed with blood of sweat from every warrior fighting for their life. If they didn't kill anybody, the Void Serpent's army would grow stronger, thus making Uravis' mission more difficult than it already was.
Nightshade had already began attacking randomly, vanishing and appearing in different corners of the fortress, he moved with unfathomable speed and calculated attacks.
He swung his swords left and right, aiming for only those he recognized as the enemies. Those who wore cloaks and had the mark of the Void Serpent on them, especially on their arms and foreheads.
The skull of a snake with a strange signature he thought was familiar.
The Alliance fought fiercely but with much effort as their teams have been broken apart.
The Shape shifters had their hands full with the mind controlling sorcerers that tried to invade their thoughts and turn them against their own.
The mages were busy with the Void Serpent's blacksmiths and demons, casting spells that they were unfortunately immune to.
Vasquez suddenly appeared before Nightshade, his body soaked with blood that made Nightshade curious of how he got so much blood on him... Not that it mattered anyway.
"Switch," Vasquez uttered, his eyes secretly searching Nightshade's for exhaustion. When he found nothing his eyes slowly widened, "You're not tired yet?"
"Yes, I haven't used any technique," Nightshade said and drew out his swords from behind him after feeling they have been kept away for too long.... Five minutes.
"Well, there are triple S ranked soldiers coming our way and the Alliance are drawing back, we have half still fighting but they need someone to lead them," Vasquez explained, his attention divided but he was still focused on Nightshade.
He was more worried about his army than about himself. Ten years of training and growing up together would not go to waste just like that.
Nightshade nodded and placed his hands on Vasquez shoulder, a genuine and reassuring smile replacing his features. "Protect them, I'll handle the Soldiers."
"You're stupid to think I will do that," Vasquez immediately refuted, slapping Nightshade's hand off his shoulder. His expression turned sinister as a grin slowly made its way to his lips. "We Rogue's don't back down from a fight for sappy reasons. We fight till the end and I don't stop till I am completely covered in blood."
Nightshade remained silent for a while, wondering why Vasquez mood suddenly changed, but he simply chuckled and glanced at the two blades in his hands, different thoughts running through rapidly.
He thought about how deserted and quiet the city was and the fact the soldiers kept coming nonstop. It was like they reincarnated.
However, it finally dawned on him.
"Mass Killing," Nightshade suddenly mumbled, after a few seconds, still staring at the swords, they shone under the little sunlight despite the clouds and onto his face. "We wipe out every living thing in Dark hold," he added, finally raising his head to look at Vasquez.
"Something doesn't feel right," Vasquez said, "Right?" as Nightshade nodded he sighed and pushed back the strands of hair that fell on his face. He tapped on the earpods in his ear, multiple times till he was connected to the whole army.
"Orders from Vendetta," he glanced at Nightshade who gave a nod of approval. "Fall back and head for the State House, find any thing capable of causing destruction over a wide range and who ever stops you. Kill them."
They all hesitated for a while but then responded and disconnected.
Elyria then walked up to them hastily after hearing his orders, her white dress stained with blood much to her displeasure but what could she do?
She approached them with stunned expression on her face that Nightshade instantly ignored, choosing not to let her make him think twice.
"You can't be serious," she whispered, reading his eyes and dead expression.
"I am," he said and then turned to her, "If you don't want to join us. Leaves before its too late."
"Give a reason why you plan a mass killing then I will decide."
Nightshade brows slowly curved to a frown, displeased with her request but he had no choice but to give an answer, "Everyone in this city works for the Void Serpent. Isn't it odd how quiet, children free and how much dark aura this city is surrounded by?"
Hearing those words, she suddenly thought about it. Ever since they arrived she sensed an aura totally different from regular sorcerers or Immortals which was strange, and considering the fact it was mid day, yet the voice of a child was not heard was also strange.
She raised her hand to cover her mouth to avoid letting out a gasp out of fright. "It can't be," she uttered but he smiled.
"It is and we need to act fast," he put the swords back in their sheaths and tapped on his communicator. "Seraphina."
"What is it?" she answered on the other side of the communicator, barely far away from the city.
"What is the closest city to you?"
"Eldra, I wanted to stop by and see my sister, Is anything the matter?"
"Head to palace and find General Thorne, ask him for his best spy."
"Oh..okay," she trailed off and disconnected, confused but she did as he said.
"Vasquez," Nightshade said and turned to him, "I haven't spent a month in this world. Do me a favor and watch my back, alright?"
"Trusting me might be your worse mistake, Vendetta, are you sure you want to take the risk?" Vasquez asked as a response, a small smile forming on his face as he spoke.
When Nightshade nodded he chuckled, "Alright, I will only protect you because you are my kind and part of my army."
"No problem," he responded but then the holographic screen suddenly appeared before him, casting a faint blue light on his face. 'Strange,' he thought, knowing he had not asked for it or even mentioned a word related to his abilities.
"What is that?" Elyria finally said after watching Vasquez and Nightshade with irritation. Not because of how they spoke to each other, but the affection in Vasquez' eyes.
It was nauseating.
"A screen, Give me second," he excused himself, moving over to a secluded spot where no one could find him.
He switched back to Uravis, a sigh escaping his lips as the cool breeze and the metallic smell of blood hit his nose.
His ran his eyes through the contents on the screen before finally settling on another character that looked different from the ones he had seen earlier.
"New Identity, huh?" he mumbled and tapped on the icon only for a red haired crazy looking face appear on the screen.
"Seriously, Nightshade wasn't enough. Another Insane psychopath is added," he spat, very upset with his ability for the first time.
Yes he actually liked unhinged characters, but too much of it was excessive and the worse part was the character is someone who would be effective for a mass killing.
But again, he had to get used to the new body.
As he raised his hand to scroll to the bottom of the identity's details, Seraphina's voice interrupted him.
"I am in the middle of something right now. What is it?"
"Thorne is away for vacation, but we found a good spy and I think you might know him."
"I doubt that, now please be kind and disconnect, I need to check out something very important."
"That is no way to talk to a friend, Drakonis," another voice said on Seraphina's side, a voice so familiar but shocking that it caused his eyes to dilate.
"Arin."
