Chapter 234: Agent Liv Tyler

As the summer season approached, the competition in the North American film market was heating up.

The Matrix had released its second trailer on Warner and Disney's television platforms. Contrary to what Gilbert had said about the film containing religious allegories and philosophical discussions, this trailer focused on what audiences actually wanted to see.

For male viewers, there was Charlize Theron's Trinity. For female viewers, there was Keanu Reeves' handsome face.

The trailer highlighted action sequences, special effects, and various chase and collision scenes, keeping moviegoers hooked.

Meanwhile, Armageddon was also making waves. The concept of an asteroid colliding with Earth was inherently attention-grabbing.

Since they couldn't get Bruce Willis to star, Michael Bay cast Steven Seagal instead. Looking back, Steven Seagal's fame never matched Bruce Willis', but in the '90s, he was one of the few action stars who could somewhat hold his own against Schwarzenegger and Stallone. He had starred in multiple successful action films.

Although Steven Seagal didn't have the same box office pull as Bruce Willis, who had proven his worth with The Sixth Sense, he still had a solid fan base.

Moreover, Armageddon's real selling point was the asteroid impact and its special effects.

To further secure the film's success, Michael Bay also brought in Liv Tyler, the daughter of Aerosmith's lead singer, and Hollywood's rising star Ben Affleck.

Ben Affleck felt a little awkward. Because of Matt Damon, he and Gilbert were somewhat acquainted, yet now they were competing at the box office.

So, Ben Affleck called Gilbert to clarify that the release timing wasn't his decision and was beyond his control.

Gilbert, of course, understood. Actors had no say in release schedules, so there was no reason to blame Ben Affleck.

This was just normal commercial competition—Gilbert wasn't that petty.

What surprised him, though, was a phone call from Liv Tyler, who had previously starred in his film The Rock. She requested a meeting.

Not sure what Liv Tyler was thinking, Gilbert agreed and met her at a café.

The first thing Liv Tyler said upon seeing him left Gilbert stunned.

"I'm already twenty years old. I'll be turning twenty-one in July."

"What do you mean?" Gilbert was puzzled.

Liv Tyler explained, "Didn't you say that once I turned eighteen, I could be your girlfriend?"

"When did I ever say that?" Gilbert was dumbfounded. He was sure he had never said such a thing.

"At The Rock's set last time. You don't keep your word." Liv Tyler pouted, looking a little upset.

Gilbert waved his hand. "Okay, okay, even if I did say that, you should know—I have a girlfriend."

"I know," Liv Tyler replied nonchalantly. "You have four women living in your Melon Manor, another one in France who recently returned to Hollywood and landed a role in 007… And plenty of others you've been with—I know all about them."

She continued, "So what? A successful man, by the laws of nature, is bound to attract many women."

"My father was the same. Did you know? He's slept with 108 women."

Gilbert couldn't help but think, Is he trying to match the number of heroes in Water Margin?

Seeing Liv Tyler's determined look, Gilbert sighed and said, "Liv, you should know—I like beautiful women."

"Am I not beautiful?" Liv Tyler stood up, pulling up her short skirt to reveal her long, smooth legs. Underneath, there was only a thin, transparent piece of fabric.

She grabbed Gilbert's hand and guided it toward that flimsy fabric.

Gilbert quickly pulled his hand away and grabbed Liv Tyler, making her sit next to him. She had been sitting across from him just moments ago.

Liv Tyler was clearly in the mood. She leaned her head on Gilbert's broad shoulder, breathing heavily, her hand slipping under his shirt to feel his chest muscles.

Gilbert caught her hand, his tone slightly serious. "This is a public place. If people see us, it won't be good."

"I don't care," Liv Tyler tilted her face up, aiming to kiss Gilbert on the lips. But he moved his head at the last second, so she only kissed his chin.

Unhappy, Liv Tyler simply climbed onto Gilbert's lap, wrapped her arms around his neck, and leaned in again.

But Gilbert stopped her. "People are already watching us. You're the leading lady of Armageddon. If word gets out that you're involved with The Matrix's director, how do you think Columbia Pictures will react?"

"I don't care," Liv Tyler brushed her hair back, ready to try again, only to be stopped once more.

"I care. Do you know what this means? If people find out, you won't be able to work in Hollywood anymore. Do you really want to go back and take over as your father's band's lead singer?" Gilbert tried to reason with her.

Hearing this, Liv Tyler suddenly brightened up. "So you're worried about me! That means you care about me."

She smiled happily and added, "Fine, then let's postpone our first date… but—"

"But what?"

"Can I at least get a kiss?"

Before Gilbert could respond, Liv Tyler kissed him.

Third time's the charm—this time, she succeeded, engaging Gilbert in a deep, passionate French kiss, sharing breath with him.

Once they were both breathless, Liv Tyler rested her head against Gilbert's chest and whispered just loud enough for only him to hear.

"Gilbert, I love you. I think about you day and night."

"I'm willing to be a dog, led by you on a leash, paraded around the world, letting everyone know—I belong to you…"

"???" Gilbert had three question marks floating over his head. He quickly stopped Liv Tyler's wild words. "Don't. That's not good. Everyone would see."

"I understand," Liv Tyler smiled sweetly, showing that she got the point. "Big shots all have their special preferences. Looks like you're the selfish kind, not one for showing off, only wanting to admire in private."

Gilbert completely gave up. This girl had an overactive imagination, and there was no saving her.

Liv Tyler continued, "Don't worry. If you don't want me to reveal, I won't. But those pretty short skirts—I still want to wear them out."

"Do whatever you want!" Gilbert surrendered.

"Hehe." Listening to Gilbert's strong and steady heartbeat, Liv Tyler felt satisfied, even though she hadn't managed to get him into bed.

She added, "I know your new movie is competing with Armageddon in the summer box office. Don't worry, I'll be your spy. If there's any news, I'll pass it to you."

Gilbert raised an eyebrow. "Now that's actually useful. Alright, get off now. It's been long enough, we should get going."

"Okay." Liv Tyler clung to Gilbert's arm, and the two walked out of the café like a couple before parting ways at the street corner.

Before leaving, Liv Tyler couldn't resist stealing a kiss, and Gilbert granted her wish.

"I'm leaving, darling. Next time we meet, I'll have a big surprise for you."

"What surprise?"

"You'll find out when the time comes..." Liv Tyler winked, put on her sunglasses, and drove off around the street corner.

After dealing with this rocker-girl-like Liv Tyler, Gilbert returned to his studio, where his friend Sophia was already waiting.

"Take a look at this script," Sophia handed over the screenplay she was adapting.

Gilbert skimmed through it and nodded in approval. "Not bad. If handled well, it might even make a mark at the Oscars."

"That's good," Sophia suddenly sniffed and said, "You just met with a woman?"

Gilbert rolled his eyes at her. "How do you even know that?"

"Of course I know." Sophia pressed on, "Who was it? Definitely not Naomi and the others, or else you wouldn't have been sneaky about it."

"Uh..." Gilbert admitted honestly, "It was Liv Tyler. She asked to meet."

"Steven Tyler's daughter?" Sophia frowned. "Didn't she already have a crush on you back during The Rock?"

"So? You finally got together now?"

"Your wording is weird," Gilbert rolled his eyes again. "She's the one pestering me. If I had known, I would have refused to meet her."

"Haha, I think it was good that you did," Sophia comforted him. "If you hadn't, she might have turned bitter with love, and that would've been worse."

Gilbert spread his hands helplessly. It was what it was—he'd just take it one step at a time.

To be honest, with his status as a top director, getting rid of Liv Tyler's entanglement would be easy. But some methods worked on male actors, not female ones.

Gilbert would never admit that it was because of Liv Tyler's long legs that he didn't completely reject her. But still, he couldn't bring himself to be too harsh—after all, she wasn't even 21 yet.

They hadn't been in touch much over the years, so Gilbert assumed she had forgotten about him. But unexpectedly, she had come knocking again.

In the following days, Liv Tyler, who had somehow obtained Gilbert's private contact, couldn't resist sending him texts every day to maintain their connection.

The key thing was—Liv Tyler was actually useful. While sending him affectionate messages, she also leaked Armageddon's marketing plans and strategies targeting The Matrix.

With the intelligence from "Agent" Liv Tyler, Gilbert was able to craft many countermeasures.

A mature Hollywood actress would never do something like this. Being caught would essentially ruin her career in the industry.

But Liv Tyler didn't seem to care about any of that. She just wanted to have fun, to make Gilbert happy, and to be helpful to him.

She had said it before—she was willing to be a dog, to be at his mercy.

Of course, Gilbert wasn't that twisted. He had no such fetishes.

But since Liv Tyler was indeed helpful, Gilbert decided to reward her with a role. That way, he wouldn't owe her anything.

To Liv Tyler, roles and rewards didn't matter. If she could get into bed with Gilbert right now, she'd be more than happy.

And so, with Liv Tyler's help, every secret about Armageddon was laid bare before Gilbert.
