After extensive discussion at the script level, Gilbert drew inspiration from the comics Batman: Year One, Batman: The Long Halloween, and Batman: The Man Who Falls.
The plot and setting of these three comics helped shape the story, with the villains chosen being the League of Assassins and Scarecrow characters who had never previously appeared in other Batman movies.
Gilbert discarded Batman's popular partner Robin and created a childhood friend named Rachel as Bruce Wayne's new companion.
Although the new Batman project was still in its early stages, Gilbert needed to help the audience move on from the terrible 1997 Batman film.
However, he already had casting choices in mind.
A Batman movie grounded in a realistic context would need to showcase both brightness and darkness. The actor would need to portray both Bruce Wayne and Batman convincingly.
In that case, Christian Bale was undoubtedly the top choice.
Of course, at this point, Warner and DC were still unaware of these plans.
All they knew was that Gilbert was taking over the Batman project and that he planned a trilogy right off the bat, which was more than enough for them.
Even more importantly, since DC was a wholly owned subsidiary of Warner, Warner Bros. didn't need Disney's involvement, and Disney had no reason to get involved either.
Doug Walter was calculating, but to avoid a strategic misjudgment from Disney, he still needed to speak with Robert Iger.
What Doug Walter hadn't expected was that Gilbert had actually already reached out to Disney.
"When Marvel Studios produces its first movie, it won't have distribution capabilities. Disney can help Marvel a lot in that area."
Hearing this, Robert Iger was very pleased.
If even Marvel's boss, Gilbert, was leaning toward Disney, then there was no doubt that securing distribution rights for Marvel Studios wouldn't be a problem for Disney.
"I think the board members will be very glad to hear that, Gilbert," said Robert Iger with a wide smile.
He continued, "When are you coming back from vacation?"
Looking at the women playing and laughing on the beach in their sexy bikinis, Gilbert replied, "Around the end of July! That's just in time for The Curse Riddle's premiere. I'll show up to support the film."
Robert Iger felt reassured. It seemed Gilbert hadn't forgotten his main job and hadn't gotten lazy just because he was on vacation.
That was more like it. He was only in his thirties. Even though he was already a world-famous super-director and worth a fortune, it wasn't the time to rest yet. He had to keep making films.
After chatting with Robert Iger for a bit, Gilbert hung up the phone.
No sooner had he hung up than a pair of soft, delicate hands touched him. Gilbert turned and saw it was Jennifer Connelly.
Wearing a bikini, her breathtaking figure couldn't be hidden. Her cleavage and curves were a dazzling spectacle.
Jennifer Connelly blinked. "I came to help you put on sunscreen…"
As she spoke, Jennifer Connelly began rubbing lotion on him, gliding over his chest and abs, then further down…
In the distance, the blue sea and sky blended into one. A few white sails could be seen faintly, with some reefs looming in the haze.
The beach shimmered golden, resembling the Gold Coast.
Legend said the indigenous people regarded this beach as the dwelling place of gods, but later, in order to build a resort, the development company set the native village on fire.
It was an extremely immoral and heinous act.
But the development company, in collusion with the local authorities, suppressed the incident. They barely paid any compensation. Afterward, the company built this resort, including a marina large enough for yachts.
Gilbert had heard all this from a local tavern owner. There might've been some exaggeration, but the story was definitely real.
Gilbert wasn't exactly a saint good people probably wouldn't survive in Hollywood anyway.
Still, when he heard about such things, he couldn't help but curse the developers as animals. But that's the nature of society jungle law, survival of the fittest.
Just as Jennifer Connelly was stealing a taste, Cameron Diaz came running from afar and complained, "Really, Lynn? You're sneaking a taste and didn't even call me."
Jennifer Connelly didn't say anything and simply moved aside, making room. The two of them began happily stealing tastes together.
That afternoon, the group switched to a smaller yacht and went out to sea for some fishing. Scarlett insisted on having a fishing contest with Gilbert, and Gilbert, of course, accepted the challenge.
It was Scarlett's first time trying fishing sea fishing right off the bat.
Gilbert even teased her with a smile, "Scarlett, want me to teach you?"
Naomi Watts, standing nearby, responded on Scarlett's behalf, "No need. Scarlett, let us help you out. We're going to beat this annoying guy at fishing today."
"Hey! Naomi, that's not fair."
"Oh? But when you bully us, that's totally fair, huh? Hmph, keep fishing."
Well then, it seems they'd really been bullied quite a bit over the past few days. Now it was time to get back at him through fishing. Sometimes, this kind of teasing is just part of the fun of getting along.
So Gilbert was left fishing all by himself, while Scarlett had a full team of women cheering her on.
But to Gilbert's surprise, it seemed every first-time fisher was granted some sort of newbie luck buff. While Gilbert hadn't even gotten a single bite yet, Scarlett was already reeling in fish after fish.
"Another one, Scarlett, oh my god, you've got some real luck!"
"Scarlett, Lady Luck herself! You're amazing!"
"Wow, another one! Scarlett, are the fish in the sea drawn in by your beauty or what?"
"Looks like even the fish in the sea can't resist Scarlett's charm. Gilbert, what's going on with you?"
Gilbert was speechless: "Something's weird today. Why isn't anything biting?"
"Hahahahaha…" The group of women burst into laughter.
Just then, something unexpected happened Scarlett hooked a big fish. But the fish was so strong in the water, it nearly dragged her into the sea.
Thankfully, Naomi Watts reacted quickly and grabbed hold of Scarlett.
Seeing this, Gilbert also dropped his rod and rushed over to help Scarlett hold on to the fish.
"This is a big one. You've got to tire it out first," Gilbert took over and began reeling it in slowly, moving from bow to stern.
All the women followed Gilbert's movements, from the front of the boat to the back, spending over ten minutes exhausting the fish.
Gilbert finally reeled it in a beautiful big fish burst out of the water.
"Whoa, it's a tuna! That's awesome."
"Darling, Scarlett, you two should take a photo together with the fish!" Naomi Watts suggested.
Scarlett readily agreed: "I caught this. I win."
What could Gilbert say? He had no choice but to admit defeat in today's fishing showdown.
The two posed with the tuna as Naomi Watts raised her camera: "Hey, darling, smile…"
"Naomi, this fish smells pretty strong!" Gilbert tilted his head back, trying to control the still-struggling fish, already dreaming of a tuna feast when they got back.
Once the photo session was done, they quickly bled the fish and stored it in the yacht's freezer. If they didn't put it away in time, it would spoil and stink fast in this weather.
And so, the fishing contest came to a satisfying end. Scarlett, powered by her unmatched luck, emerged as the big winner, leaving the seasoned angler Gilbert completely outmatched.
