Chapter Thirty-Three: Daniel

The moment that Catra started falling from the sky was etched, burned, into Daniel’s memory.

Everything had frozen in place, it seemed, even though he was moving, the strength of his wings pushing him forward.

He dove down, abandoning the storm that he had been manipulating, as the cloud beneath Catra dissolved and her body went limp.

Daniel only realized he had been holding his breath when he caught Catra and sank to the ground, where Ryan was racing to meet him.

Ryan was still in his wolf form as he bounded towards them, his heavy paws kicking up soil and bracken.

“She’s unconscious,” Daniel gasped. “But she doesn’t seem to be hurt.”

Ryan, the wolf, nodded, before fur started fading away and his human features returned.

His mate stood, touching the charm that made his clothing reappear, and looked beyond Daniel.

“I think it is because of that. Because of him.”
