So there I was sipping on my caramel frappe, embracing the calmness of the cafe and it's warm interior. It seemed the winter season was just around the corner, perhaps I could buy a scarf?
The drink I had order used to be a black coffee but after some quick decision-making, I decided I didn't want to be so awake for this next part. Not when a certain couple sat right in front of me.
"...Kale, don't you think it's a bit rude of you to be ignoring Daisy like this?"
I turned towards the surprisingly firm voice of Arthur. His posture was as straight as an arrow while he attempted to 'look down' on me which was hard since I was a solid head taller. The head nearing laying on his shoulder looked up at him in awe.
Sighing, I continued to ignore the both of them. My body literally faced the window looking out the cafe rather than me simply turning my head.
"Sorry, Daisy. He's not usually like this... p-perhaps he's a bit shy towards your good looks." My face cringed and I began sipping on my frappe.
"That's alright, Arthur, I'm quite used to it by now." The young girl's voice was like the morning dew. It was light and very pure sounding, it echoed in the air and hung there. As if telling you to appreciate it. "There will always be people like that..."
"A-ah! Umm, Kale, perhaps you should really apologise?"
Strangely I could feel Arthur's gaze piercing the side of my head. Like I was in the wrong? Why was the common sense of this world so bad?
"Daisy," My deep voice startled the busty girl and caused her to hold her 'protecter' much more intensely. "I don't hate you nor am I shy from your looks... I just hate this guy."
My gaze transferred from Daisy's very bewildered look to the appalled Arthur sitting there.
"Huh?"
"You wonder why I'm acting like this, but did you once question why I might be? Like maybe how you sat on my table without asking? Hmm?" I rose a very suggestive eyebrow before finishing my piece. The liquid in my drink was nearly finished.
"...Wow, I thought we were friends, Kale." I deadpanned. "After all that we've been through and all I've shared with you?... Maybe I was delusional to think a person like you would understand me."
I looked at him with disgust. Was he for real? At this point of the story his biggest hurdle was a step mother who didn't like him very much. Beyond the occasional dirty glance or so, was he really a pitiful protagonist?
I scoffed and finished my drink.
"I'll leave now so you guys can finish up by yourselves." My seemingly looming figure startled Daisy even more, but I didn't care. "May favour be upon you's, or whatever. Later."
As soon as I said that, Daisy broke. This easygoing and carefree character of her's disappeared from her eyes and what replaced it was a dark startling glint in her eye.
"Wait Kale, I didn't really mean it! I was just being--"
My face broke out in a smile as soon as I noticed this just before leaving the cafe. It was actually quite lucky of me to find them this early. Their date event somehow got crashed by me and an important canon event might not happen.
The cold breeze in the air suddenly picked up and whistled a threatening tone. Despite the shiver in my bones, I couldn't help but be excited.
I wonder how the novel's plot will proceed now?
With a playful stride, I meandered back home. I had a lot of time on my hands since I didn't have to worry about the third trial. Although it's in debate who won between me and Alicia, the academy will 100% take the person who didn't faint.
Now all I had to do was wait and see how will this little dark agent respond?
I wonder how fast will it take?
...
...
My hand grasped the doorknob to my apartment and turned it open. The hinge creaking filled the room with an awkwardness as I met eyes with purple ones.
The figure had this sort of jellyfish cut where her hair curled as her hair-ends went from black to a violet. Her face was an oval where her almond eyes gazed with intensity mixed in with boredom. Wrapping around her rather plump figure was something that could only be described as a ninja outfit.
Looking at Daisy her body language turned defensive seeing how I was so nonchalant seeing her in my space.
"Who are you and what do you want?"
Daisy was the first to break the silence. She seemed the most uncomfortable in this scenario of a home invasion she had procured. Which was an odd thing to be feeling for the perpetrator.
Dropping down a plastic bag of groceries I had bought on the way with stol- I mean leftover money, I crossed my arms.
"Forget me, it's not what I want but in fact what you want..." Purposely stepping closer to her figure I tried to exude this intimidation of the unknown. "...Vanessa Bohw."
Daisy or rather Vanessa's eyes constricted and in a flash of motion a faint dull humming echoed close. The light from a lampshade glistened in its pristine condition, a pair of obsidian sai stopped themselves pressing into my jugular.
I raised my hands up rather pathetically caught.
"...Y'know, you'll never be able to take down Vita Nox by yourself." Blood slowly dripped from my neck as the weapon carefully punctured emptily. "At least not by yourself, you won't..."
Vanessa's body pressed hard against mine against the closed door of my apartment. A soft sensation emanated from my stomach and an intrusive thought stabbed through my mind.
"What do you know! Let me ask this again, what do you want!"
Her face curled into itself dangerously as the knuckles gripped her sai turned white. The look in her eye revealed a lot...
"I do not want anything Vanessa." Her mental state was in such a disarray I was able to easily push her off me and grab my groceries once again. "Not from you any ways."
She allowed me to pass as I merely needed a few steps to reach my terribly tiny 'kitchen'. Producing a few ingredients for a pasta, I began cooking in front of the nervous Vanessa.
"...Then, what do you want?"
Her voice seemed to reveal its fragile nature. Rather than the eye-catching and pleasant tone that was found in Little June's cafe, a more deeper and grounded sound echoed.
A small smile pieced together on my face as I remained turned to my cooking.
"I just want to let you know, seeing how you're still searching for your revenge and all."
Silence followed for a short moment.
"...How do you know all of this?"
I momentarily stopped myself from cutting the onions just yet. It would get pretty awkward if I was the one to start crying all of a sudden.
"Let's just say I'm quite... cultured. Yes thats right, cultured in everything."
"...Huh?"
"...I'm well versed."
"Oooh, I see"
"...Yup"
"..."
"...Do you mind looking away for a moment, I'm gonna be cutting some onions now."
"Ah, yes..."
