Michael pondered for a moment, then slowly came to a realization.
"He's so big that even dragons seem cute to him… but surely, he doesn't think everyone else feels the same way, right? He wouldn't, would he?"
Wade thought for a moment and replied tactfully, "Why don't you… take a guess?"
Michael glanced at The Monster Book of Monsters in his backpack—the one that bit people—and suddenly lost his appetite for his pumpkin pasty.
Wade looked sympathetically at the students who were eagerly anticipating Hagrid's class.
Most of the students who had participated in the maze challenge had witnessed Hagrid casually swatting away a giant-sized insect with one slap or lifting a trapped student out of danger by their collar with just two fingers.
For those who had been saved, that rather brutal scene had felt like a heroic figure descending from the heavens.
So, at this moment, many students were genuinely looking forward to Hagrid's lessons, never considering that while he could easily swat away spiders, he could also make them spend an entire term taking Blast-Ended Skrewts on walks.
Wade had already learned a lot about magical creatures from Steven, and if it weren't for the Time-Turner, he wouldn't have chosen Hagrid's Care of Magical Creatures class at all.
The same went for Divination and Muggle Studies—neither had been on his list of preferred subjects.
But now…
Wade thought to himself, I'll have to see if I can get Hagrid to teach more useful things… or maybe skipping class wouldn't be such a bad idea.
…
After dinner, the students—exhausted from an entire day of traveling on the train—returned to their common rooms. Too tired to chat or joke around, they simply exchanged goodnights and headed straight to bed.
The dormitories had already been thoroughly cleaned by the house-elves. Even though the Ravenclaw Tower was high up and cold rain was falling outside, the rooms remained warm and cozy.
Wade's luggage had already been delivered, with his clothes and books neatly arranged. A pot of hot water sat on his desk, and a pair of slippers had been placed on the carpet by the door.
Suppressing his excitement, Wade quickly washed up before sitting at his desk and taking out the Time-Turner to examine it.
Golden magic rune patterns spread out before his eyes. The tiny hourglass, no larger than a thumb, extended into a structure more intricate than a DNA molecular diagram.
Everywhere he looked, faintly glowing golden runes interwoven with the other enchanted objects in the room, layering upon each other like a holographic projection.
Wade held his breath, completely immersed in the grandeur and mystery of it all.
How could such magnificent magic be achieved with just a single spell?
Staring at the mysterious hourglass at the center of the Time-Turner, Wade made up his mind. He slipped the golden chain around his neck, grasped the dial, and turned it once.
In an instant, a blur of colors and shapes rushed past Wade, as if he had entered the legendary time and space tunnel. The ticking of a clock echoed in his ears—loud, almost deafening.
Beyond that overwhelming sound, Wade could hear nothing else.
But he didn't care. He strained his eyes, trying to make sense of his surroundings. Amidst the shifting light and shadows, he felt as if he had glimpsed something—some kind of different trajectory.
A moment later, his body swayed slightly, and the scene around him changed.
House-elf Zoe was in the middle of hanging clothes. Hearing a sudden noise, she turned around at lightning speed and stared at Wade in shock.
"Wade Grey suddenly appeared! Why is Wade Grey in the dormitory? At this time, Wade Grey should be in the Great Hall eating…"
Before she could finish mumbling to herself, her gaze fell upon the Time-Turner in Wade's hand.
"Oh, so this is the future Wade Grey."
Zoe bowed slightly, then said:
"Wade Grey has chosen to take all the subjects. Only the most outstanding students of Hogwarts would make such a choice… Very few are willing to dedicate so much energy to learning. Wade Grey is truly remarkable…"
"Thank you, Zoey," Wade said as he gripped the dial and turned the Time-Turner once again.
This time, he was sure he could capture that difference!
When he steadied himself, the room was empty. The air felt damp and cold.
Wade let out a low grunt and pressed his hands against his eyes. A burning sensation shot through them, as if he had rubbed them tears welled up involuntarily.
"Episkey… Reparo Oculi…"
Pointing his wand at his eyes, Wade muttered the healing spells several times before the pain finally subsided.
He looked into the mirror and saw that his eyes were bloodshot, as if they were filled with broken capillaries.
It seemed like he wouldn't be able to continue studying the magic traces left by time reversal for now.
Wade knew he had plenty of time to research this later, but to avoid encountering himself from a different moment in time, he quickly grabbed some essential clothing, casted a Disillusionment Charm on himself, and left the dormitory for the Room of Requirement.
Inside the Room of Requirement, he found most of the tools he needed—both magical and Muggle.
However, the Muggle instruments were all mechanical, like optical microscopes. There were no electronic devices like electron microscopes or plasma mass spectrometers.
Wade conducted several magical tests in a row, but the Time-Turner remained utterly still—quiet as a sleeping bird, completely unchanged.
A powerful counter-curse had been placed on the device.
Then, Wade tried using a Muggle approach. First, he placed the Time-Turner under a microscope. Using a Lumos spell to provide the right illumination, he slowly adjusted the focus by carefully fine-tuning the knobs.
A clearer image appeared in the microscope's lens. Wade tapped his wand, projecting the magnified image onto the wall.
The golden chain… and the circular metal frame around the hourglass appeared unremarkable—made of seemingly ordinary materials, with simple and regular magical patterns.
But the hourglass itself… and the white, sugar-like sand inside it…
Wade observed for a while, and suddenly, a thought struck him.
He took out a small vial containing gold dust—collected not long ago from Professor Murray and others, as well as from an exhibition site—and placed it under the microscope for comparison.
Among the gold dust were tiny white particles. They were different in shape and size from the grains in the hourglass, but Wade remembered that when viewed through his magic vision, their magic rune patterns unfolded in a strikingly similar way.
He suddenly recalled the sensation of gold dust clinging to his skin—that eerie moment when his blood flow seemed to slow, his consciousness grew hazy, and time itself felt as if it had slowed down. His reactions had dulled, as if an invisible barrier had formed between him and reality.
Placing the gold dust and the hourglass together, he gritted his teeth and activated his magic vision once again, examining their similar yet distinct magic rune patterns.
But… how could this be?
That gold dust came from werewolves—only a few among werewolves know magic…
Wade wrapped the golden chain around his wrist and stared into the hourglass filled with fine white sand with a deep and contemplative gaze.
