Wade glanced around the room and soon spotted the name [Sybill Trelawney] in the corner.
The professor stood in the dimly lit shadows and her entire body was adorned with intricate and bizarre jewelry, making her blend seamlessly into the chaotic room, almost as if she were invisible.
She wore enormous glasses that magnified her already big eyes, and her entire demeanor radiated an eccentric mysticism.
Wade suddenly felt that she reminded him a bit of Luna—not in terms of appearance, but in the way she seemed to exist in an entirely different world.
The students, who were unable to spot the professor at first, hesitated to sit down. They looked around curiously until Ron finally asked, "Where is she?"
"Welcome," a misty, ethereal voice echoed. "It is wonderful to finally see you all in the physical realm."
Trelawney drifted forward, and her sheer, shimmering shawl glowed faintly under the candlelight. The bangles on her arms jingled softly with each movement.
Wade's expression became one of quiet resignation.
It was clear that Trelawney was trying to establish herself as a powerful and enigmatic figure—someone who could commune with divine forces and peer into the unknown.
But the truth was, the way she had been lurking in the shadows observing her students was likely her most natural state. Now that she was putting on an act, she came across as overly dramatic and insincere.
Trelawney gestured for the students to take their seats. After adjusting her shawl, she sank into an armchair and continued boasting—
"…The excessive busyness of school life clouds my Inner Eye…"
"This is the most difficult of all magical disciplines… If you lack the Sight, there is little I can teach you…"
"…Peering through the mist to unveil the future—only a rare few possess such a gift…"
She lifted her chin slightly, making it clear that she was one of those rare, gifted individuals. Yet, her gaze remained fixed on some invisible point in the air, avoiding direct eye contact with any of the students.
To her credit, most of the younger students were completely mesmerized. Wade noticed that Padma, who had initially been scrutinizing the professor with skepticism, was slowly starting to look convinced.
Bored, Wade flipped through his Divination textbook.
The cover featured an illustration of the full moon shrouded in fog. The author was Cassandra Vablatsky.
The preface included a brief introduction to this famous Seer of the wizarding world—She was once a beautiful princess who received the gift of prophecy from the sun god Apollo, who fell in love with her beauty, which granted her the ability to foresee future events with absolute clarity.
However, when she did not return his love, Apollo placed a curse on her—no one would ever believe her prophecies and her visions would only be of tragic events yet to come..
Cassandra foresaw the destruction of her kingdom, the deaths of her loved ones, and even her own demise, but no one listened.
While she was alive, people thought she was mad. Only after her death, when her predictions came true one by one, was she recognized as one of the greatest seers in history.
Professor Trelawney is her descendant. Strangely, though, while she made a great show of her supposed mystical powers in front of students, she never once mentioned her legendary lineage.
Wade knew that although Trelawney always seemed to be putting on an act, she was, in fact, a true seer.
One of her prophecies had driven Voldemort to personally hunt down Harry, altering the course of the entire world—though she herself was completely unaware of it.
As she had just said, "prophecy" is an innate talent, something that flows through her very blood. And when it surfaces, it would tore through the illusion of peace, exposing the cruel and merciless face of fate.
For students without this talent, all they could do was follow the textbook, stare at tea leaves, and make up nonsense.
Trelawney predicted that around Easter, someone would leave forever. Then, as if what she had just said was nothing unusual, she calmly began pouring tea.
Though Wade found the whole exercise meaningless, he still grabbed a teacup from the shelf and went over to Professor Trelawney to get some hot tea.
Sitting beside Wade was Neville. He accidentally broke a teacup, and turned red with embarrassment as he hurried to grab a second one. He held it with both hands as if it were a bomb, cautiously returning to his seat.
The tea was scalding. The students sipped it carefully, blowing on it as they drank. Once they finally finished, they swirled their cups three times, then turned them over onto their saucers to let the remaining liquid drain out.
While waiting for the tea to settle, Neville anxiously flipped through his textbook. The yellowed pages contained simple sketches of different tea leaf formations, with handwritten interpretations beside each one.
Wade treated it like reading a dream interpretation book—he didn't believe in it, but it was amusing to look at.
Soon, the tea had fully drained. Wade lifted his cup, glanced at the pattern inside, and momentarily froze.
No matter how he looked at it, the tea leaves unmistakably formed the shape of a bat in flight.
According to the textbook, bats—like black dogs—are symbols of death. Moreover, bats are also linked to evil, vampires, and other ominous forces.
Neville hadn't noticed Wade's reaction. Still rattled by breaking the cup earlier, he focused on his own teacup and asked:
"Wade, you already opened yours? Uh… is my tea drained yet? I think so, right?"
Uncertain, Neville lifted his head to see what others were doing.
At that exact moment, Wade picked up his cup as well, and subtly brushed the rim against the bottom of the saucer.
"If you're finished, hand your cup to a partner for interpretation," Professor Trelawney instructed. "I will guide you and assist where needed. Of course, those without the Gift may choose to give up early. As I have said, talent is everything..."
Wade and Neville exchanged cups.
"Uh… this…"
Neville flipped through the book, and tried his best to interpret Wade's tea leaves.
"Yours looks like… an umbrella? Maybe it means it's going to rain tomorrow, and you should bring an umbrella… but I guess you don't need one, since you can just use your wand…"
He turned the cup in another direction.
"From this angle, it kind of looks like a little boat. Maybe you're going to row across the Black Lake, Wade… Or, it could mean you're about to go on a long journey… Hmm, better bring an umbrella just in case."
Wade also gently swirled Neville's tea leaves.
"This looks a bit like a rabbit baring its fangs… Not bad, that means you'll encounter some good fortune. Or maybe… a big cabbage?"
As he spoke, Wade suddenly felt a brief moment of dizziness, as if his vision blurred for a second.
Neville waited a few seconds before asking, "Are you hungry, Wade?"
"No." Wade steadied himself and said, "Uh… cabbage… symbolizes a bountiful harvest…"
He absentmindedly recited words from the textbook, but in his mind, a thought refused to go away—
For a fleeting moment, he had felt that the tea leaves formed the shape of a goat's head. And once that idea took root, it became impossible to shake. The more he looked, the clearer it seemed.
A goat's head, much like a bat, was far from a good omen.
—But it's just a few leftover tea leaves. Thinking they could reveal a person's fate would be ridiculous.
Brushing off the thought, Wade casually picked some positive interpretations to tell Neville, who immediately brightened with excitement.
On the other side of the room, Professor Trelawney was staring at Harry with a mournful expression, dramatically exclaiming—
"A grim omen—the worst of all omens— an omen of death!"
