Chapter 8

The narrator said, "Megan and Joseph walked into town together the next day. While they were walking, Joseph sniffed around and smelled meat." Joseph said, "Hey, do you smell that?" Megan said, "Smell what?" Joseph sniffed more and said, "That's fresh meat. Come on." The narrator said, "Joseph hurried around the corner, and Megan followed him. She followed him to a butcher shop and saw Joseph run in. Megan followed him in, and Joseph started to smell the fresh meat the butcher was bringing out." Megan said, "How did you smell that?" Joseph said, "How did you not?"

The narrator said, "Joseph paid the butcher, who gave him the ham he just brought out. After buying it, Joseph took the ham home and cooked it for dinner." Megan ate her fair share of the ham while Joseph finished his fair share and what was left on the table." Megan said, "Wow, you must enjoy ham. Joseph said, "You bet I do. And all other kinds of meat." The narrator said, "Later, Joseph shaved before showering, and it took over an hour. Joseph didn't know that Megan was watching him shave, and his sink became hairier than a dog." After his shower, Joseph saw Megan. Then, Megan looked down and saw Joseph's legs growing hair. Joseph then covered his legs with his bathrobe and tried hiding the extra hair from Megan.

Megan had a video chat with Kayla and Kendal when she returned to her room. Kendal said, "You said it yourself. He's acting nicer than usual; he can sniff meat a mile away, buy and eat meat, and take longer than an average man to shave. Your brother is a werewolf." Megan said, "That doesn't make sense. I've known him since he was born, and we have never seen a werewolf." Kayla said, "Well, there are four ways to become a werewolf. #1 is that you're born a werewolf and get your powers at age 13. But Joseph is over that age and hasn't become a werewolf until now. So that way is out." Kendal said, "Way #2 is if another werewolf bites you, and you become one yourself." Megan said, "He didn't get bitten." Kendal said, "Ok, way #3 is an infection from the beast's blood." Megan said, "He hasn't touched a vile of blood since we arrived. Although, I can't say the same for the vampire crew on TV. But let's get back to Joseph." Kayla said, "Ok, ways #1-3 are out. That leaves way #4. Cursed by the beast. Didn't you say this all started when he got that necklace?" Megan said, "You can't prove that amulet was cursed." Kayla said, "Not yet. But we've been checking the library for it, and we can't prove it yet. But we'll report back to you when we find that necklace." Kayla hung up, and Megan shut her laptop. Megan didn't know that Carolyn, disguised as an owl, was eavesdropping on her conversation and heard everything they said about Joseph being a werewolf. She then flew to the vampires' hideout and reported back to them.

The narrator said, "Once Carolyn got to the castle, she told her friends that she'd located the werewolf they were looking for and knew who it was." Matthew said, "Good work, Carolyn. Now we know who we're dealing with." The vampires then clinked their cups of blood, drank them, and got younger. They then got in their car and drove around town looking for Joseph. They spent all night looking for Joseph. While driving around town, the police saw them and started following them. When Carolyn heard their siren, she looked out the back window of their car and saw the police right behind them. Carolyn said, "Matt, 911 squad at 6:00." Matt said, "The police? No worries; I'll lose them." Matt hit the gas and put the pedal to the metal. Then their car went faster, and even more police officers started chasing them. Matt drove them to a construction site and drove right through it. Matt reached out of the car, picked up a rock, and tossed it and the cement mixer controls. The vampires drove out of the construction site while the cement sprayed the police. Once the cement hardened, the police cars stopped, and the police got trapped in their vehicles. Matt then purposely drove them to the police station and stopped right in front of it. Carolyn said, "The police station?" Raven said, "Are you out of your mind?" Matt said, "What? I just wanted a longer car chase." Alexis went straight to Chief Jade and said, "Chief, it's..." Chief Jade said, "Them." Chief Jade left the station and saw the vampires right in front of the station. Chief Jade pointed at the vampires and said, "Get them."The narrator said, "The police got in their cars and chased after the vampires when they drove off."

The police chased the vampires across town. Chris kept turning the streetlights green so they wouldn't worry about slowing down. Police Chief Jade sped up her car and laughed evilly. Police Chief Jade spotted the vampire car straight ahead, so she sped up and drove beside them. Police Chief Jade then leaned out of her car and grabbed the vampires' car. The vampires screamed, and Police Chief Jade said, "You're mine now. And when I arrest you..." Matt said, "Excuse me, chief." Chief Jade said, "What?" Matt pointed straight ahead, and Chief Jade looked ahead and saw they were headed for the back of a bus. Police Chief Jade then panicked, let go of the vampires' car, and got back in hers. Then she drove around the vampires' street and toward them when she got back on the same road. Police Chief Jade laughed evilly because she was confident she would win. Police Chief Jade said, "You're mine." Matt then got an idea since they had police ahead and behind them. Matt sped up their car to 140 MPH and made a quick left turn. Then, all the police cars crashed into each other, and the vampires got away. The narrator said, "Matt's quick left turn sent them and their vehicle flying, so everybody in the vampires' car started to panic and hold on tight." Once they landed, Matt drove them down a stairway and back onto the road. The vampires then buckled up because they were scared of what had happened. The narrator said, "Police Chief Jade then climbed out of the pile of police officers and saw the vampires get away again." Police Chief Jade said, "No, no, no, keep running, vampires. One of these days, your luck is going to run out.

Joseph turned into a werewolf that night but didn't even know it because he had been asleep all night. When dawn came, the vampires hurried back to their hideout before the sun officially rose. Once they returned, they all went to their coffins inside their hideout instead of their homes since they didn't have time to return. The next day, Megan went to spy on Angelica while Kendal and Kayla went to their town's library to look into Joseph's necklace. Megan looked all over town for Angelica but couldn't find her, so she went to her house. Once she got there, she used a flashlight to look around and saw her diary sitting on the table in the living room. Megan thought about it and knew reading someone else's diary without their permission is wrong, but she was willing to do it for Joseph." Megan then got a call from Kayla, and she answered it." Megan said, "Hello." Kayla said, "Megan, it's Kayla, and Kendal is with me. Kendal and I found Joseph's necklace in the library's computer." Megan said, "And I found Angelica's diary. You're not going to believe it. Entries date back to the 6th century. This diary is over 1400 years old, and I bet so is Angelica." Kendal said, "So, you're telling us that Angelica is over 1400 years old, but she still looks like a regular adult. How can that be? She could only live that long if she found a fountain of youth or if she's..." Megan said, "Ok, I know what it looks like, girls. But how can it be possible?"

Megan then heard Angelica open her house door and got worried that she might get caught. Megan quickly said, "Got to go." Megan hung up her phone, and Angelica's bat ear heard the beeping sound. Angelica walked into the living room and turned on the lights. Megan kept Angelica's diary so she could find evidence in it. Then she peered out of her hiding place and saw Angelica walking around the living room, looking for her. Angelica called Matt on her phone, saying, "Someone is in my house." Matt said, "I'm betting it's the spy." Megan quietly crawled out of the living room and tried sneaking out of the house. Then Angelica heard the person inside her house leave. Since she was still on the phone, she told Matt. Angelica said, "Well, whoever it was, they left. Now, let's get on with the plan." Matt said, "We will after we finish sleeping and night comes." Angelica said, "Yes, sir." Angelica and Matt then hung up. Angelica went up to her coffin in her room and went to bed in it.

The narrator said, "Megan walked across town reading Angelica's diary, and it seemed like made-up stories to her since it said stuff that didn't make much sense to her. Once she got home, Megan had a video chat with Kayla and Kendal, hoping they would give her some information on Joseph's necklace, which they did." Kendal sent Megan the information link on Joseph's necklace, and Megan read it. Megan said, "This is The Pendant of The High Howlers. 3 witches in the 16th century created it on All Hallows Eve. They created it from a spell out of their special spell book." Megan zoomed in on the necklace and said, "That's the necklace Joseph is wearing. When he put it on, it must have turned him into a high howler." Kendal said, "Which proves your brother's a werewolf. But get a load of this. We found this book on The High Howlers of the past; each has the same necklace. And according to this. Once the spell is implied, it's useless to anyone except those who share the same blood as the person who first put it on." Megan said, "You mean like family members?" Kayla said, "Exactly. I'd keep my eye on him if I were you." Megan said, "Don't worry, I will. I'll also keep my eyes on this 1400-year-old Angelica." Megan then hung up and went downstairs to have dinner with Joseph.
