Clouded

(Rose)

The Annual ball had begun and I was currently in the kitchen trying to whip up the last batch of cupcakes for the night.

"Hurry up with that. Other packs are beginning to arrive," said Mom as she straightened her dress while eyeing me, probably due to the fact I had icing sugar smeared on my face due to my time in the kitchen.

"Yes Mom," I replied.

She huffed and left me in the kitchen, probably heading to the pack hall where the annual ball was been held.

Although I wasn't allowed to attend the ceremony, I was happy that Amelia and her friends loved the makeup I did for them.

Hopefully, they get to find their mates tonight and I could get a break from their taunting as the wolves immediately move in with their mates after their wolves have recognized each other.

"Okay, that's probably enough for the night," I thought to myself.

Walking up the stairs, I tried to use my apron to clean the sugar I had on my arms and my face to look a bit presentable while taking the cupcakes to the hall. I know I wasn't looking forward to a mate but that doesn't mean I would want to have icing sugar all over me.

"Rose, if those cakes don't get to the hall within 5 minutes, I will deal with you seriously," Mom said.

I quickly ran down the stairs and carried the tray of cupcakes out of the house while making my way to the packed hall, totally forgetting to put on footwear. I was trying to avoid being punished for keeping pack members without refreshments.

Passing by Emmy's house, I thought about him being at the ball since he had been so giddy about it. He tried convincing me to join him but like earlier times, I had to decline because I wasn't allowed to attend social events.

Shaking my head at the thought of Emmy pouting at me, I smiled.

A figure in the distance was currently paving around the training field just outside the hall.

"What's he doing out here when the ball is inside?," I asked myself.

The figure was currently making his way towards my direction and my heart began to race.

"Why is he coming close to me?"

Standing in front of me, I heard a word I never thought could be said to me.

"Mate"

Mate?

Am I this man's mate?

How's that possible?

"What's your name?" he asked.

His voice was a deep baritone that made my heart jump but in a good way.

"R..rrose sir," I stuttered while bowing my head as I was afraid to look him in the face.

"Look at me when I'm talking to you, Rose.,"

I raised my head to look at him and gasped at the sight in front of me.

He was a very attractive man with beautiful blue eyes and jet-black hair. He stood tall and had a look of indifference, not what I expected from someone who called me mate.

I once read that mates look mesmerized when they meet for the first time.

"What are you doing with that?" he asked.

"Huh?"

He pointed to the ground and I saw that I had dropped the tray of cupcakes that I was taking to the hall.

"No, no. I'm going to get into so much trouble.," I said while trying to remove sand from the cupcakes.

I didn't realize that I had dropped this tray earlier.

Mom was going to kill me if she found out what happened.

Without giving the man a second thought, I quickly carried what was left on the tray and ran towards the hall.

Placing the tray on the table in a corner made for refreshments, I overheard two people talking to themselves and from their voices, I could tell they were both females

"Did you hear?" one of them said.

"Hear what"

"Amelia, the daughter of our beta has found her mate."

"Really? Who is she mated to?"

"Beta Enzo. The Beta of the Bloodmoon pack"

"The blood moon pack? I heard their alpha is ruthless."

"Well, it's a good thing she is mated to his beta instead."

"Has she been presented to the Alpha yet?"

"Yes, I saw them over at the Alphas section bowing to him earlier."

"Hmm. Lucky girl"

So Amelia found her mate.' I thought happily.

She finally got her wish and now I get to be free from her beatings. I was very sure that she would follow him back to his pack.

One less problem for me.

A shiver got up my spine and I turned to find the man I met earlier behind me.

"What is the name of your pack?" he asked.

"I am a member of the Crescent Pack Sir," he said.

"Hmm," he replied and left me alone.

I watched him walk to the Alpha area with no fear at all.

Was he an Alpha? What pack did he belong to?

These were the questions that clouded my mind as he whispered something to Alpha Thomas which made him break into a smile and clap his hands.

Alpha Thomas led him to my father and they both shook hands with each other while saying things I couldn't hear.

I looked away from them and continued placing the cupcakes on the table.

"Sorry to interrupt everyone's fun but I have incredible news for us. The Alpha of the Bloodmoon pack, Alpha Lucas has found his mate."

Everyone clapped at the news.

I didn't notice that my pack's Alpha was currently calling attention from the stage until a kind-looking lady tapped me and pointed at Alpha Thomas who gestured for me to come to the stage.

"Why is he calling for me?" I asked in my thoughts as I made my way to the stage.

I almost missed my steps as the attention of all the wolves turned to me.

I hated public attention. I always stick to the shadows. I prefer not to be seen. People make me feel anxious.

"Everyone, meet the future Luna of the Bloodmoon pack, Rose Luceillo."

What?

I looked up to Alpha Thomas in shock as he smiled down at me.

My mate is the Ruthless Bloodmoon Alpha I heard about.

Everyone was currently clapping and beaming with smiles.

My mate pulled me to him and I felt sparks fly from my skin. He brought his lips to my ears and whispered; "Don't get too comfortable with that future Luna title, I can't be mated to an omega"

My heart sank as soon as he uttered those words to me.

Does he think I'm an omega?

At least Omegas had wolves.

I wasn't sure I even had a wolf.

What is going to happen if he doesn't sense my wolf?

Was he going to reject me?
