I laughed softly, the sound foreign to my own ears. It had been so long since I'd felt this light, this free.
"Thank you," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
"For what?"
"For being kind to me," I said, my heart aching with the weight of my words. "For reminding me that I deserve more."
His expression softened, and he leaned forward, pressing a gentle kiss to my forehead. "You deserve the world, Zahra."
Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes, but I blinked them away, refusing to let them fall. "I don't know what's happening between us, Dimitri, but I think I want to find out."
His hand tightened around mine, his green eyes filled with something I couldn't quite name. "Then let's find out together."
