He let out a bitter chuckle. "But innocence doesn't last."
His fingers curled into fists, the tension in his body growing heavier.
"Then I created Alexander."
Lilith stayed silent, knowing this was something she needed to let him say on his own.
"Alexander was the perfect one. He was everything Grandma wanted, a boy who never failed, never made mistakes, never gave anyone a reason to lock him up. If everything was perfect, she wouldn't scold him. Wouldn't hurt him. Wouldn't abandon him."
Darkness's voice grew colder. "But if things weren't perfect—he would get angry. If he got less than full marks, he would get angry. And if someone got in his way, he would destroy them."
