Chapter 45

The scent of burning cedar filled Kaden's chambers, The smell was both comforting and suffocating. His focus wasn't on the play of burning fire and darkness. His mind was elsewhere, consumed by something else.

It was on her.

Lily moved through the room with ease, her hands steady as she wiped the marble basin, gliding effortlessly over its smooth surface.

Kaden leaned against the edge of his desk, arms folded tightly across his chest, watching her. His gaze followed her every step, her every gesture. Everything about her was beautiful, but everything about her also felt unreachable. She was a mystery, one he couldn't seem to solve. Yet here she was, just out of reach again, as she had always been.

"You can keep pretending all you want," Kaden murmured, "But we both know you see me."
