Chapter 8: Suspicion

Jiang Jiu averted her gaze and took a sip of juice.

In the end, the three of them drank quite a bit. Ningning left with Feng Hao, Siyan called for a designated driver, and Liang Xu, with his arm around Jiang Jiu's shoulders, said goodbye to everyone.

Liang Xu had drunk quite a lot, and his steps were unsteady. He looked at Siyan and laughed, "Ah Yan, look at you. You drink and no one takes you home. You should hurry up and find someone, someone gentle and virtuous like Jiujiu."

Siyan methodically took a cigarette pack from his pocket, his slender knuckles holding the cigarette in his mouth. He looked down, the lighter's flame casting a halo on his face. He took a drag, his gaze fixing on Jiang Jiu, "You're right."

The man's gaze was too aggressive. Fearing that Siyan would say something he shouldn't, Jiang Jiu quickly helped Liang Xu into a taxi.

"Sit tight."

After saying goodbye to the others, Jiang Jiu reported Liang Xu's apartment name. Unexpectedly, Liang Xu spoke up, "I'm not going home tonight, I'm going to your place."

Jiang Jiu was startled. They had been together for nearly two years, but Liang Xu had never spent the night at her place, even when they went out, they had separate rooms.

Liang Xu had previously said that he wanted to respect her before marriage, so Jiang Jiu, deluded, had always thought this man was kind to her, sufficiently gentlemanly, a good life partner to entrust her life with.

Thinking this, Jiang Jiu couldn't help but give a bitter smile. Truly, it was foolish beyond belief.

Liang Xu rested his head on her shoulder, his eyes closed, his voice slightly slurred, "Jiujiu, why do you smell like that kid Siyan's perfume?"

Jiang Jiu's muscles tensed slightly. Could it be that Liang Xu had discovered something?

She glanced out of the corner of her eye and saw him still with his eyes closed, looking uncomfortable, so she casually replied, "You forgot, you asked him to pick me up. I might have picked up the scent in the car."

Liang Xu muttered something under his breath but said no more.

When they reached the destination, Jiang Jiu helped Liang Xu out. Fortunately, the man could still walk on his own, or Jiang Jiu wouldn't know how to handle this drunk.

Just then, her phone rang again. Jiang Jiu glanced at it; it was Supervisor Li.

"Liang Xu, your Supervisor Li is calling you. Should I answer it for you?"

Liang Xu sobered up quite a bit, took the phone, and walked to the side to talk.

"Hmm, tonight... No, not tonight, tomorrow, okay?"

Jiang Jiu's expression changed slightly. She stood aside, silently watching the man's back. Over these years, this man had casually flirted and arranged dates with other women right in front of her, and she had been too foolish to notice even once.

After hanging up the phone, Liang Xu explained on his own, "The supervisor asked me to work overtime, but I declined."

Jiang Jiu stood up and headed toward the apartment building. "If you have things to do, go ahead. Why decline? I don't need you to keep me company."

The man, with his arm around her shoulder, belched, "Today, of course, I should accompany my wife. The supervisor can wait."

Jiang Jiu frowned, repulsed, and shrugged off the hand on her shoulder, "Go take a shower, you reek of alcohol."

"As you wish, wife!"

Liang Xu went to the bathroom and also took his phone with him, Jiang Jiu knew well, this was a sign of a guilty conscience.

Just then, the doorbell rang again. Jiang Jiu was startled. Who could it be at this hour?

She opened the door, puzzled, and saw Siyan standing at the doorstep.

"What are you doing here!"

Jiang Jiu was taken aback and instinctively tried to close the door. But the man's large hand rested on the door jamb, not giving her the chance to close it.

"I'm here to... take care of you."
