Chapter 314: There is a Spring and Autumn Annals in the Book

The next evening, as the sun set, Wei Yuan entered King Ying's mansion.

King Ying's mansion was grand on a scale even larger than Prince Wei's estate, but as soon as Wei Yuan entered, he felt an austere breeze wash over him.

An aged gatekeeper led Wei Yuan towards the main hall, the whole mansion deeply subdued with only a few lamps lit. Some places were so dimly lit they might as well not have been, making the entire estate look even darker.

Weeds were growing between the large slabs of stone on the ground, left untended. Wei Yuan saw hardly anyone in the vast mansion; had it not been for the occasional fleeting figure, he might have suspected it was a haunted house.

Thankfully, there was proper lighting in the main hall. The gatekeeper guided Wei Yuan through it, into a side courtyard. On a pavilion by a small lake, there was a table set with wine and dishes.
