I thought about what Moira was telling me while also trying to suppress the part of my mind that wanted to just scream at the absurdity of it all.
"So, what's wrong exactly with Millie? What's all this?" I asked, waving toward the machine. I hadn't noticed when, but at some point, a progress bar had appeared on the floating holographic screen. It was about a third full.
"Ever since Generation One, the aliens, The Heartwood, have been sending large amounts of data to Earth and into the minds of Chung Lap Ceon's clones. It's actually the reason we're born with white hair, it's to save a little bit more space in our bodies to store more data. For some of my sisters, they were old enough, their brain's mature enough, so the data was manageable without intervention. For some, the amount was too large so," Moira nodded to the machine, "some of that data was extracted."
"Just like… offloading files from a full hard disc?" I asked.
"More or less."
