"She just ran off like that?"

Rod glanced at the now smaller Annie and couldn't help but curl his lip.

This woman really couldn't take a joke. And to think she had such a fun-loving face.

A real witch should be more like the succubus Freya—seductive, bewitching, able to set a man's soul on fire with just a glance, leaving him wanting more.

"Adventurer, what happened?"

Annie blinked groggily as she opened her eyes, her gaze falling on the now-defeated werewolf. A flicker of surprise crossed her face.

"You fainted from fear, but the werewolf is dealt with," Rod replied.

"Was it you who took care of it? As expected, your strength is truly trustworthy." Annie pressed her hands to her chest, her face full of admiration.

Rod didn't know how to respond as Annie automatically credited him for the victory. She clearly had no idea how terrifying her second personality truly was. If it weren't for his intervention, the werewolf wouldn't just be dead—it would've been reduced to ashes. And if his strength had been just a little weaker, his brains would've been splattered everywhere.

But the situation was too complicated to explain, so he simply let it slide.

"The appearance of the werewolves was caused by someone being attacked by a hunter who had turned into a werewolf. Anyone attacked by a werewolf will also become one," Rod explained calmly. "Now that the werewolf is dead, Mushroom Town won't have to deal with wolves anymore."

"You don't need to persuade your grandmother to move."

Annie's face lit up with joy.

"Adventurer, I really don't know how to thank you. Please, take this gold coin."

Rod looked at the single gold coin clutched tightly in Annie's hand. It was likely the most valuable thing she owned.

"Keep your coin. I don't need it." Rod turned away, waving dismissively over his shoulder.

"Wait, Adventurer, please."

The mad grandmother's voice called out, stopping him.

"What is it?" Rod turned slightly, his eyes narrowing a bit.

"I want to ask you to take this child with you."

Her voice, unusually serious, caught Rod's attention.

"You want her to come with me? Why?"

Rod found the sudden trust a bit strange. Where was it coming from?

"This child's power is far too immense. If she loses control, she could destroy the entire town. Worse yet, the backlash from her witch's magic could drive her mad."

"She'll be safest at your side."

In other words, she believed that his strength was enough to suppress Annie's second personality.

"If she's willing, I don't mind," Rod replied, thinking of the two slaves he already had. What difference did it make? Taking care of two mouths or three was the same to him.

As for the mad grandmother, there was no need to worry about her. Witches had extraordinarily long lifespans, often living for three to five hundred years. This mad witch was still relatively young by witch standards. Living another hundred or two hundred years wouldn't be a problem. With her powers, who would dare bully her?

The mad grandmother took Annie back into the cabin and, after a private conversation, Annie returned, having agreed to leave with Rod.

"Grandma, I'll come back to visit you." Annie waved to her grandmother, then turned to Rod with a serious expression.

"Adventurer, I'll be in your care from now on."
